There are so many little things that can make your home feel dirty. No matter how clean it is if there are scuff marks on the linoleum and fingerprints on the door, the house feels dirty.
Some of these things are easy to fix, a quick swipe with a wet cloth and the fingerprints are gone, and since it’s so quick, you can run around and grab all the doors. However, some things don’t go away so easily.
Like scuff marks on the linoleum. If you have kids, you have scuff marks, sometimes you don’t even need the kids and still the scuff marks appear. The quick solution? Try an eraser, if that doesn’t work toothpaste on a dry cloth works every time.
When your windows stick opening then to let the fresh air and sunshine in is a pain, as is closing them in a hurry when it starts raining. Use spray silicone lubricant on a cloth and wipe the tracks. This works for wood, metal and plastic.
Are the decorative pillows on your couch flattened from use? Take them outside in the sunshine for a few hours, flipping them halfway through. The sun will get rid of the moisture that has collected inside and the pillows will plump back up. Just be careful the sun doesn’t fade them. This is also a good way to air out your bed pillows.
Does your coffee pot or other decanter look stained? I learned this as a young girl working at a convenience store. Put a little bit of vinegar in the pot along with some salt and swish around. This is especially handy for decanters you can’t fit your hand in.
Water marks on furniture? Mayonnaise mixed with a little fireplace ash does the trick. I don’t know why but my grandmother swore by it and it’s the only thing I’ve ever used.
Does the caning on your chair seat sag? Wipe the underside of the caning with a wet sponge and let it dry overnight, the caning will tighten right back up.
Are there stickers stuck to everything thanks to your toddler? A little WD-40 will work. This also works on those beautiful tub decals that will curl up but not come off. Just make sure to scrub the tub really well so it’s not slippery.
A few little hints to put in your spring cleaning bag.
