Spring Forward to Action: Put Your Best Foot Forward

As I mentioned Wednesday in: What Are We Doing?, we’re focusing on endurance this month and today is our second day of the official Spring Forward to Action plan and since I’m working on endurance, here’s what my workout plan for today looks like:

  • 30 minutes on the treadmill at a comfortable 2.7 pace – this is my warm-up for the day
  • Roller skating for fun – 30 minutes or so
  • 20 minutes of yoga – always a great way to get the body and the mind in sync in the morning

Okay, that was the plan for putting my best foot forward. So what did I actually get done today? Since I spent my day as a substitute teacher at the local elementary school, I spent most of the day on my feet teaching a class.

I did manage to get my morning yoga in and I needed that clarity and focus when I headed into the school. I was fortunate that I had a great class and while they kept me on my toes, I had a great time teaching them and going over the basics of math, their comprehension of a story they’d read a few days before (It Takes a Village) and I even got to highly entertain them with the fact that I knew what happened in the story. It pays to have a six year old that you read to all the time.

Walking for 30 Minutes

Though I didn’t make it to the treadmill, after school, I took the kids out for a walk while they rode their bikes. We headed over to a local park and they got to play while I did my thirty minutes of walking in a circuit around their playground. No, it’s not the ideal workout, but I made it work for my day.

So how do I feel about it? My legs hurt, my back is a little sore and I’ve got something of a headache. On the other hand, I’m feeling really good about the fact that despite the major change in plans, I was still able to get some of my goals accomplished.

How did you do yesterday?
