Whether you are heading to the Jersey Shore, making tracks to Florida’s coastal communities or cruising to California, you can experience sun, sand, and surf without sacrificing your entire summer travel budget. The trick is to take advantage of the free activities and amenities offered at your vacation destination.

Concerts: Pack a picnic and relax in Spreckels Park on Sunday evenings throughout the summer. On the first and third Sundays of the month Coronado’s Summer Concert Series takes place. The live music extravaganza allows you to bask under a setting sun while listening to a variety of popular tunes.
Cultural Events: On June 8-9, you and your family can experience an incredibly enriching event at historic Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside. The Annual Inter-Tribal Pow Wow attracts tribal members from across the nation. The groups showcase cultural dances, Native American arts and crafts, as well as authentic food items. If you can’t make it to town in early June, then head to the House of Pacific Relations in Balboa Park for the free International Cottages’ Lawn Programs. Fishing: This summer, the San Diego Fly Fishers club is offering free fly-fishing lessons. Each Sunday from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at La Mesa’s Lake Murray, you and your family can learn how to cast a line and try to catch lunch.
