Stuart Little 2 (2002)

22Stuart (voiced by Michael J. Fox) loves being a member of the Little family. They have done everything they can to make him a happy home, including building him a whole bedroom complete with tiny furniture on the top bunk of his brother George’s bed. He’s enrolled in school and drives his tiny car to and from class. He’s even a member of the soccer team. But he’s still not completely happy – his mother, Eleanor Little (Geena Davis) is overprotective, and keeps him from having fun. His father, Fredrick (Hugh Laurie) tells him that it’s just because she loves him so much, and Stuart knows that, but still, he dreams of having a big adventure.

One day while driving home from school, a pretty little bird makes a crash landing right into the passenger seat and passes out. Stuart manages to bring her around, just in time to see what was chasing her – a huge falcon with razor sharp talons. Stuart outmaneuvers the falcon (voiced by James Woods) and takes the bird, named Margola (Melanie Griffith) home with him to recover.

Mrs. Little takes an instant liking to Margola and helps Stuart nurse her back to health. What neither of them know is that Margola is a double agent, sent to the Little home by the falcon, to spy out any valuables they might have. Once inside the house, Margola feels guilty for lying to them. They truly make her feel welcome and she hates the thought of doing anything to hurt them, but the falcon threatens her.

While washing dishes one night, Mrs. Little puts her expensive diamond ring on the windowsill. She looks away for just one moment, long enough for a birdy thief to swoop down and take the ring. She thinks she’s knocked it down the drain, and Stuart volunteers to go on a reconnaissance mission to fetch it. Down the drain he goes, to find that the ring is not there.

Overcome with guilt for what she has done, Margola leaves the Little home. When Stuart wakes up to find her gone, he decides that he must go on a rescue mission, taking Snowbell the cat (Nathan Lane) along as his accomplice and telling George to cover for him. He’s off on an adventure at last, his biggest one yet!

This sequel to “Stuart Little” is a cute and funny movie. I did enjoy the first one just a whisker more, but “Stuart Little 2” is well worth your time.

This film is rated PG.
