Summer at a Ski Resort

I admit; I’m not much of a snow bunny. In fact, I have probably been to more ski resorts during the summer months than during the winter. However, there’s a method behind my travel madness. Visiting a ski resort in the middle of summer is significantly cheaper than when the snow is chest high. Many mountaintop hotels offer great savings to guests during the warm summer months. In fact, right now Expedia is advertising a super summer sale on rooms at top-rated ski resorts.

Take a look:

VERMONT

If you are looking for an affordable summer getaway head to Vermont’s Green Mountains. From now through September 5th, rooms at the Golden Eagle Resort (near the charming city of Stowe) are priced at just $94 per night based on a 3-night stay. The hotel offers standard and deluxe units; mini-suites; as well as a private cabin and a three-bedroom house on its 80 acres. Indoor and outdoor pools, and more than two miles of nature trails on the extensive grounds are among the lodging’s other amenities.

COLORADO

You can save on your summer jaunt to the Rockies by booking the package deal being offered by the Vail Plaza Hotel and Spa. The hotel is located on the town’s pedestrian mall, at the base of the mountain, and features 100 guestrooms, which include free Wi-Fi, and flat screen TVs. You also have access to hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, along with golf courses and a place to fly-fish. Nightly rates start at $166 based on a 4-night stay. The deal ends September 5, 2008.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

Take a tour of British Columbia before Whistler hosts the 2010 Winter Games by signing up for this outstanding travel package: Studio suites at the Whistler Pinnacle Hotel are currently priced at a reduced $118 per night. The 30 percent discount is valid for travel through September 5 when you book four nights by July 31, 2008. The hotel boasts 84 guestrooms, which feature full kitchens with refrigerators, ovens and dishwashers; hot tubs; and wireless Internet. The lodging is conveniently located between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains — providing ample opportunities for summer outdoor adventure, from glacier walks and mountain climbing to golf and poolside lounging.
