Sunny Travel Funnies—-Cross Country Crack-Ups

It’s been a while since I wrote my last installment of the Sunday Travel Funnies, but this week it’s back… with some major crack-ups.

We begin in Jacksonville, Florida where a driver there caused an accident that would no doubt have Bill Cosby shaking his head.

According to police, a truck driver narrowly escaped serious injury (he did sustain injuries but has since been released from the hospital) this week when his truck smashed into another vehicle and flipped over on a local highway spilling thousands of Jell-O snack packs on I-95.

Police say the truck driver lost control of his rig, slammed into another truck and flipped over, which caused the individual packs of Jell-O to splatter all over the highway.

While the accident caused a major traffic jam, officers say no one besides the driver of the Jell-O truck got hurt.

Moving on to Philadelphia. Police say they had to deal with a massive traffic jam there a couple of days ago thanks to greedy motorists and a generous gas station.

A local gas station decided to celebrate the Philadelphia 76ers first appearance in the playoffs in three years by offering fuel for 76 cents a gallon for 76 minutes starting at noon on Friday.

The playoff promotion reportedly got so out of hand that fender benders were a common sight as budget conscious travelers tried to make their way to the pumps to fill up on cheap gas.

According to news reports, hundreds of drivers began lining up near the gas station around 6:30 a.m.; some drivers admitted to sleeping in their cars just so they could be one of the first in line. About 100 cars made it through before the line was cut off and the price for a gallon of regular unleaded went back up to $3.69.

Finally, police in Palm Gardens, Florida say a 7-year-old boy could face grand theft auto charges after taking his grandmother’s sport utility vehicle for a joyride. According to officers, the young boy lasted 8 minutes behind the wheel before he crashed the SUV into a signpost. He reportedly left a swath of damage in his neighborhood, including a slew of mangled mailboxes and dented cars. Police say the boy kept driving until the SUV’s right wheel fell off.

There’s nothing funny about that. However, I saw the boy’s grandma on TV and what she said had me rolling on the floor.

Asked if she was relieved that her grandson was unhurt during his joyride the grandmother responded: “I would like to hurt him myself. I want to give him a whoopin’ and I would give him a serious whoopin’ if I didn’t think it would land me in jail.”
