Surviving A Hollywood Divorce

In the wake of the many headlines that revealed pop princess Britney Spears “Fed-Exed” her husband of two years, Kevin “K-Fed” Federline, I thought it appropriate to highlight the Hollywood couples who have made it past the “ugly” phase of divorce and moved on “for the sake of the children.”

Please note I am in no way condoning the act of divorce, especially when it comes to the hasty unions of young Hollywood, but recently several celebrity couples that have gone through high profile divorces have addressed the issue with various media outlets.

The first: the Richie Sambora/Heather Locklear/Denise Richards/Charlie Sheen saga. On Monday, the 47-year-old rocker told TV’s “Extra” that he hopes that his seven-month-old relationship with Denise Richards is the real thing. The Bon Jovi guitarist, who has a 9-year-old daughter, Ava, with estranged wife Heather Locklear, also told reporters, “I want to have more children.” With Richards? “You never know.”

Richards who endured a lengthy public battle with her soon-to-be-ex-husband Charlie Sheen already has two daughters, Sam, 2, and Lola, 1, with whom she shares custody with Sheen. In a previous blog I detailed what Sheen had said about his estranged wife’s relationship with Sambora.

Adding to the soap opera like drama that surrounds this “only-in-Hollywood” relationship, Sheen and Richards formerly lived in the same Southern California neighborhood as Sambora and Locklear. Richards and Locklear had been pals, but any goodwill the ladies had for each other is now no more. Still, when asked if he could envision a time when the four of them could sit down together as friends, Sambora said, “Why not? Of course. We’re all adults.”

Perhaps, they could enlist advice from Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher and Bruce Willis. In what has got to be the ultimate model of “how-to-make-a-relationship-work-post-divorce” the three-some seem to defy the odds and make it all work.

“We spend all our holidays together,” Moore, recently told TV’s “Access Hollywood.”

When she says “together” she means ALL together as in the kids, Kutcher and Willis. Yes, she’s managed to maintain a good relationship with Willis, whom she divorced in October 2000 (she married Kutcher five years later).

“You have to work towards getting over what might have been awkward, or uncomfortable – I want his happiness. And I think he wants my happiness,” Moore says.

“And you know, I have somebody who is a great father, who’s present, he’s a part of their lives,” she says of Kutcher. “There are a lot of people who don’t have that.”

Moore adds, “(Bruce) and Ashton have a mutual respect for one another and we approach it really as a team. We’re a team and we want the best for our children.”

So I suppose it is not out of the realm of possibility that Brit and K-Fed could make their divorce “work.”
