Sweet Cinnamon Biscuits

If you’re looking for something delicious and comforting to nibble on as the weather turns cold, try making these deliciously sweet cinnamon biscuits. They’re a great treat to make for yourself or to let the kids help make as well. The dough is flaky and soft and the cinnamon sugar makes this treat taste like the best cinnamon roll-donut combination you’ve ever had.

Try it—you’ll love it!

For this recipe you’ll need:

2 cups sifted all purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon baking soda

¼ cup vegetable oil

¾ cup buttermilk

8 tablepoons (1 stick) butter, softened

¾ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup milk (optional)

To make this recipe:

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the sifted flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Mix well with a wooden spoon. Stir in the vegetable oil, and then add the buttermilk, stirring just until well blended. (Avoid over-stirring because the dough won’t be as flaky).

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is smooth, then roll the dough into a 15 x 8-inch rectangle.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Grease a 9-inch round baking pan with cooking spray or shortening or butter.

Spread the butter over the dough. Combine the granulated sugar and the cinnamon in a small bowl and mix well with a spoon. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the butter. Roll up the rectangle, jelly roll fashion, starting from one long side. Pinch the seam to seal.

Cut the roll into 1 ½-inch slices. Arrange the slices, cut side up, in prepared baking pan, and bake until lightly browned. This will take about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the rolls from the oven. Pour milk over the top if desired.

You’ll want to serve these tasty treats hot or warm.
