Twittermania

Okay, call me old, but I am just not into Twitter. Oh sure, I am on there (http://twitter.com/lpelham), but I already have MySpace and Facebook and I usually update my statuses there, why bother with Twitter? And seeing everyone else’s updates like that just seems a bit manic. But, it appears I am alone in not twitting as the rest of the world seems to be in love with it. I blogged a while back about singer Erykah Badu’s childbirth being twitted online, play by play. Now, a Twitter battle is on. Ashton Kutcher is hoping to beat CNN to … Continue reading

Nadya Suleman’s Website

“Oh no she isn’t!” was the first thing I thought today when I read the CNN headline “Octuplets’ mom seeks online donations.” Nadya Suleman has set up a web site for donations for her new octuplets. The site offered three places where you could click to make a donation. In her first interview, Nadya said she loved her babies “unconditionally, accepting them unconditionally, everything I do. I’ll stop my life for them and be present with them and hold them and be with them. And how many parents do that? Oh, now my head is hurting. I have been a … Continue reading

Election Day Coverage—Who Will You Be Watching?

T-minus 24 hours. Television news organizations have been preparing for Election Day 2008 with about as much anticipation as the politicians themselves. The event is like the Super Bowl, the Olympics and the Academy Awards all wrapped up in one broadcast. Several networks just announced plans to unveil major new tech toys to get poll results to the public as soon as possible. Tomorrow you will be introduced to a “magic wall,” a “launchpad” and watch as NBC and ABC turn two New York City landmarks – Rockefeller Center and Times Square – into virtual TV studios. Here’s what else … Continue reading

Nancy Grace vs. William Balfour’s Mother

CNN’s Nancy Grace contained herself for about six minutes before she lit into a hot-tempered, defensive, and at times, incomprehensible Michele Davis-Balfour. Balfour is the mother of William Balfour—-the “person of interest” in the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew. Did you see the interview last night? What an absolute train wreck! Balfour was invited on Grace’s TV show to explain the events leading up to her son’s arrest as she understood them. Believe me; she didn’t do her son any favors. Balfour started out fine, but it didn’t take long before she lapsed into a barrage … Continue reading

Did New Baby Cost CNN Anchor New Show?

The media had a field day when Campbell Brown left NBC News for CNN after more than 10 years at the peacock network. The former Weekend Today co-anchor spent years covering the White House for NBC and in 2006 she was named as a highly viable contender in the hunt to replace Katie Couric on the Today show. When NBC execs announced Meredith Vieira would fill Couric’s vacancy, Brown was livid. A year later Brown told a live Today show audience she was pregnant and a few months later she jumped ship to CNN where she was promised her own … Continue reading

Celebrities On The Move: Drew Moves To “Price Is Right” and Campbell Jumps Ship To CNN

It’s official… well, almost. Comic Drew Carey has confirmed that he will be replacing game show legend Bob Barker in the fall. Carey spilled the beans during a taping of the “Late Show with David Letterman.” The deal puts to end the massive amounts of speculation regarding who would fill Barker’s shoes at the CBS daytime game show “The Price is Right.” Several months ago 83-year-old Barker announced he would be retiring, that opened the floodgates regarding who would be selected as the popular show’s new host. The front-runner (at least for a while) seemed to be outspoken talk show … Continue reading

The Post Mortem On Paris’ Interview

Did you happen to catch Paris Hilton’s first words as a free woman? I saw bits of pieces of her taped piece while I was getting my daughter ready for bed. The CNN interview (her first broadcast interview since leaving jail Tuesday) was conducted by Larry King and was just as I figured it would be—filled with awkward pauses as the heir-head–I mean heiress–collected her thoughts and tried to put them into words. If you missed the interview, which detailed the socialite’s 23 days behind bars here’s a sampling of what you would have heard: According to Paris, being locked … Continue reading

Celebrity Corner—All Gone!

In my previous blog: “Celebrity Corner–Going, Going, Gone” I made a remark about Billy Ray Cyrus’ miraculous longevity on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Last night his run on the dance competition came to an end and now he is GONE! But, he isn’t alone. Recently, a number of other celebrities have gotten the boot (or decided to leave on their own) from a variety of venues: Duane “Dog” Chapman and his wife were given the boot from a United Airlines flight early Monday morning after they allegedly yelled and swore at a flight attendant. According to news reports, Los … Continue reading

More Divorces, a Baby, and a Threat

It seems that every week in Hollywood, we get a couple of announcements of couple separations and at least one announcement of a couple expecting a little bundle of joy. Here is the latest from Hollywood: Divorces: Actress Anna Faris has filed for divorce from her husband of three years, actor Benjamin Indra. You may remember Faris from her roles in the Scary Movie series, Brokeback Mountain, and My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Indra has been in a few low budget horror flicks such as Lover’s Lane and Voodoo Academy. The couple married in 2004 and reportedly separated last month. CNN Newswoman … Continue reading

CNN-Free Hotel Rooms

If you are a news junkie who’s used to flipping back and forth between all of the all-news television networks then you may want to be careful where you make your next hotel reservation. A Midwest hotel chain has pulled CNN from the TV channel lineup in its guest rooms, saying the cable network was aiding terrorism with the broadcast of a video showing Iraqi snipers shooting at U.S. troops. The broadcast, which aired last month on both CNN and CNN Headline News, featured edited portions of a tape the network said it obtained from a rebel group called Islamic … Continue reading
