The Children’s Place Outlet – $10 off $30

Every parent of a small child knows that kids’ clothes are way overpriced! That’s especially true for those items that don’t hold up to normal kid wear. This is one place that buying cheaper isn’t necessarily better (did I just write that?). If you’re lucky enough to find garage sale clothes that fit your kids, fantastic! Or maybe you know someone whose children are a little older than yours and they hand them all down to you. When Jenna was small, we had friends whose daughter was two sizes larger than she was. It was great to get Minerva’s surprise … Continue reading

Amazon Children’s Book Sale

It’s an addiction. Books, that is. It’s gotten to the point where I’m supposed to give away one book every time I bring another into the house. Supposed to, that is. At today’s Boy Scout rummage sale, I bought a whole shelf load. Of course, I’m justifying it by the price, but I really can’t get enough of books! Maybe it’s better described as a life-long love affair. Books take you to places you’ll never get to visit in person, allow you to think through situations you’d otherwise never encounter, and teach you things you could never have imagined. They … Continue reading

Is Your Dishwasher a Fire Hazard? GE Announces Recall

Today General Electric in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall including as many as 2.5 million dishwasher units. The recall hazard involves the liquid rinse-aid dispenser which can leak into internal wiring of the dishwasher and may cause an electrical short or overheating, resulting in a possible fire hazard for consumers and homeowners. General Electric says they have received 191 reports of overheated dishwasher wiring. There have been no injuries reported, but 56 claims for property damage and 12 cases of fire damage. The 12 reports of fire have resulted in limited damages mainly to … Continue reading

Jimmy’s Boa Bounces Back – Trinka Hakes Noble

I enjoyed reading and reviewing “The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate the Wash.” When I saw “Jimmy’s Boa Bounces Back” at the library, I was excited to read this sequel. It’s not as cute as the original, I’m afraid. But it’s still a fun story. On the first page, Meggie announces to Jimmy that she has just seen his boa at her mother’s garden club meeting. Apparently her mother needed something to wear that would add just the right touch to her suit, and decided that the boa was just the ticket. Her friends were quite taken with her fashion statement. … Continue reading

A Warning About Mulch

It wasn’t until my brother’s best friend’s house burned to the ground (the fire investigator said the fire was sparked by lint buildup in the dryer) that I began completing regular maintenance on my dryer. I’m ashamed to admit that it took someone else’s tragedy to raise awareness in my own home. Now it’s happened again. We have been experiencing unusually mild weather (actually, record breaking temperatures in the 80s) in our neck of the woods, which has enticed many homeowners to get a jump start on spring planting and other yard work. Unfortunately, for one local homeowner his efforts … Continue reading

Need to Scrapbook Halloween? Ideas and Poems For That Spooky Night

To put me in the mood to actually go back and scrapbook our Halloween, I have been spending some time going through un-scrapped photographs of all of the previous Halloween’s. The photographs make me smile as I see my children in various costumes. Or sitting amongst pumpkins in the middle of the pumpkin patch. It is so cool to see how much they have changed and grown over the years. Halloween has never been one of my favorite holiday’s even though the season carries my favorite – that of Autumn. While the leaves are changing and the air is crisper, … Continue reading

Blue’s First Holiday

I have the perfect suggestion for a holiday video for your child. “Blue’s First Holiday” allows your child to share the magic of the holidays with everyone’s favorite dog — Blue. This DVD has four episodes, including two from the VHS video “Blue’s Big Holiday.” I am sure that it will become a holiday favorite for your child as it has become with mine. Blue’s First Holiday Spend a wonderful holiday with Joe, Blue, and the rest of the gang as they watch home videos to find out when their story began. Follow the time when Steve first met Blue … Continue reading
