Every five years, the federal government issues official dietary guidelines for Americans. Our children are taught these guidelines at school and school cafeterias are expected to follow them. The general population is expected to follow these guidelines as the way to a healthy body. There hasn’t been a lot of food news lately other than the same issues regarding cloned foods, tainted foods, and the ban on trans fats. But here is something I read recently that caught my eye: a new Food Guide Pyramid featuring traditional cooking and latino foods. Definition of “Healthy Eating”

When I was in school, we were taught about the food pyramid, which provided clear instruction on foods to eat and their importance. Somehow, between then and now, the food pyramid has been ignored. Too bad – this tool remains valid. While we have seen a few minor adjustments, I recommend you go back and look at the food pyramid to get a better idea of what healthy meaning really means.
