The Power of “No” (Part 1)

Jim Carrey was recently in the charming film “Yes Man.” It’s about a movement to say “yes” to everything. While the film is certainly worth watching (for those old enough for the content), and the overall meaning is positive, there is a definite danger to the word “yes” when it comes to college. One of the best pieces of advice you’ll ever receive is “get involved: early and often.” College is necessarily a transition for most traditional students. You’re moving away from the ever-watchful eye of parental supervision and into a different environment that involves a certain amount of maturity … Continue reading

Sundance in Full Bloom

Believe it or not, there are other events going on in the world other than Barack Obama’s inauguration today. For example, the famed Sundance Film Festival is currently going on in Park City, Utah and those stars that aren’t in Washington, D.C. are surely there hobnobbing with each other. This year, rock documentaries are big with Tom DiCillo’s When You’re Strange. When You’re Strange contains footage of Doors frontman Jim Morrison and keyboardist Ray Manzarek that was shot by a UCLA film school buddy between 1966 and 1971. DiCillo wanted to do a Doors film because he himself is a … Continue reading

Forbes Announces List of Most Overpaid Movie Stars

Forbes is at it again – this time, uncovering the most overpaid movie stars. Now, before you start, let me state that they did it very scientifically. They looked at the star’s last three films that opened before January 1 (to give it time to be released on DVD). They discounted animated films, supporting roles, and any star that consistently earned less than $5 million per movie. To calculate the gross income for every dollar paid, those at Forbes took half of the worldwide box office per movie, then added the first three months of DVD revenues. They then subtracted … Continue reading

Jim Carrey: The Best Medicine for Jenny McCarthy’s Son

That’s my opinion anyway. The actress might very well feel the same way, but that’s not the reason I am writing this blog. Rather, I am using this opportunity to take back any and all negative comments I have made regarding the coupling of Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey. By nature I don’t put much stock in unions between big name Hollywood celebs and that went double for McCarthy and Carrey. I just figured the two self-professed goofballs were thrown together based on their mutual love for making others laugh and eventually the romance would fizzle out. But now I … Continue reading

Star Baby News—-Who’s Welcoming a New Addition in 2008

Last month rumors were swirling that Matt Damon’s former “Good Will Hunting” co-star and ex-girlfriend Minnie Driver was due to give birth to her first baby this summer. While the actress’ camp remains mum about the news, the New York Post has decided to spread the good word claiming the rumor is indeed fact and reports its “spies” recently spotted Driver and a friend outside a Los Angeles-area doctor’s office looking at sonogram pictures. The 37-year-old star of “A Socialite’s Life” is reportedly keeping the identity of the father under wraps, though some tabloids are saying that Driver’s current English … Continue reading

Hollywood’s Crazy Casting

He’s in. He’s out. Less than 24 hours before shooting was scheduled to begin on the new movie “The Lovely Bones” actor Ryan Gosling took a hike. According to Variety, Gosling spent weeks preparing for the lead role of Jack Salmon, the grieving father of a young girl, in the adaptation of the Alice Sebold novel. The actor reportedly gained 20 pounds and even grew a beard for the part, but cut out right before filming was set to begin because of “creative differences.” Enter Mark Wahlberg. Variety says the hunky actor agreed to replace Gosling in a pinch. Wahlberg … Continue reading

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I recently rented and watched this film and I have to say – it was nothing like I thought it would be. Of course, that begs the question of what I thought it would be and truthfully speaking, I’m not sure what it was I was thinking when I rented it. But let me tell you what I got and why it’s an appropriate topic point for the marriage blog. In the film, two strangers meet on a beach. They seem drawn to each other and they decide to spend the evening together. By the end of their first night, … Continue reading

Jenny’s Mystery Man Revealed

A few weeks ago I was watching ABC’s “The View” (actually, I had the TV on while I was cleaning the kitchen so I wasn’t really 100% focused on the program) when I heard co-host Joy Behar say, “Come on… Come on… you can tell us… do you want me to say?” I looked up from the sink to see Jenny McCarthy shaking her head no. I put my sponge down. Now I was intrigued. What didn’t this woman who had penned an entire book chronicling her pregnancy and subsequent post-baby weight-loss regime, not want us to know? “Can I … Continue reading
