After the Election: McCain Does Leno and Four More Years of Olbermann

“Tonight” show host Jay Leno will be celebrating Veteran’s Day with one of the country’s most famous war heroes. Sen. John McCain is set to make his first post-election TV appearance on the “Tonight” show on Tuesday, according to NBC execs. The Republican presidential candidate is a former Naval officer and prisoner of war in Vietnam, a title he used heavily while campaigning against now President-elect Barack Obama. Insiders say McCain chose a talk show over a news show for his first post-election TV interview because he wanted a more lighthearted experience after his loss in a hard fought battle … Continue reading

Dad Dupes Mom and Names Kid After Republican Ticket

Can you say doghouse? If you’re Mark Ciptak then you’re not only familiar with its pronunciation but you’re also used to its smell by now. The Tennessee resident and father of a newborn daughter is making headlines for secretly naming his baby girl Sarah McCain Palin after the Republican presidential and vice presidential candidates John McCain and Sarah Palin. Ciptak, who works for the American Red Cross, told news reporters that he named his third child after John McCain and Sarah Palin to “to get the word out” about the campaign. “I took one for the cause,” Ciptak told local … Continue reading

How Not to Tick Off David Letterman

A.) Make sure your name is not John McCain and B.) Never, ever cancel a “Late Show” appearance at the last minute. It’s a lesson Republican presidential hopeful John McCain learned the hard way last night when he dissed David Letterman for Katie Couric. Did you see it? In classic Letterman style the often-irritable late-night talk show host spent much of his time on air unloading on McCain for standing him up. Bail on Letterman? Talk about stupid human tricks. According to Letterman, McCain personally called the comedian just hours before he was supposed to show up to tape an … Continue reading

Jackson Browne Sues John McCain

It often seems that musicians and politicians have a love/hate relationship. I already blogged about campaign songs certain politicians have chosen which might have not been the best choices had they thought the song all the way through. John McCain seems to be making bad campaign song choices left and right this year. Not just in lyrics, but just in general. He used John Melloncamp’s song “Pink Houses” earlier this year. On the surface, the song sounds okay, but if you dig deeper, it talks about dreams that are never fulfilled. In addition, Melloncamp himself contacted the McCain camp and … Continue reading

When Politicians Choose Bad Campaign Songs – Part I

It is that time again – time for politicians to try to appear to be in touch with the common man and in doing so, choose mostly inappropriate campaign songs. This phenomenon has been happening for a while now. You might remember that Ronald Reagan used Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” as one of his songs. Oh sure, on the surface, it seemed like quite a good choice. But, let’s look past the title to the actual lyrics. Here are just some of them – “I got in a little hometown jam, And so they put a rifle in … Continue reading

Huckabee Joins Fox and Cusack Joins Team Obama

If you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em. That could be Mike Huckabee’s new mantra. The former Republican presidential hopeful plans to join the profession that he infamously slammed while serving as governor of Arkansas. Huckabee announced that he has accepted a new job at Fox News Channel as a political commentator. The ordained Baptist preacher turned politico will reportedly aid Fox as it navigates through the muddy waters of the 2008 presidential elections. The former governor dropped out of the presidential race in March, after John McCain won enough delegates to clinch the Republican nomination. “I hope to bring the … Continue reading

Meghan McCain Follows in Jenna Bush’s Footsteps

Her father has yet to secure the job presently held by George W. Bush (though he’s gunning for it), but that’s not stopping Meghan McCain from trying to emulate current first daughter Jenna Bush. Meghan McCain, the daughter of Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain just announced that like Jenna Bush she is author material and will be writing a children’s book. “I am truly excited about the opportunity to write a children’s book about my father, who is not only a fantastic dad, but also a great American,” the 23-year-old said in a statement earlier this week. Meghan McCain’s … Continue reading

Presidential Smackdown

Now here’s a wrestling match I have a feeling many Americans would pay to view: Barack Obama vs. Hillary Rodham Clinton vs. John McCain. Unfortunately, the closest most of us will likely get to seeing a presidential smackdown is a rerun of last night’s war of words between the candidates on World Wrestling Entertainment’s live “Monday Night Raw.” The ultra-hyped “smackdown” turned out to be more of a stumping with each candidate delivering a wrestling-themed verbal attack. The taped messages appeared on USA network’s most popular primetime show in advance of tonight’s Pennsylvania primary. “Tonight, in honor of the WWE, … Continue reading
