Reege to the Rescue—Yet Again!

When in need turn to Reege. ABC did when they needed a host for “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” and now CBS has followed suit turning to the king of daytime talk to inject star power into their new primetime game show “Million Dollar Password.” The series debuted on Sunday and delivered solid ratings. Make that king-sized ratings. According to Nielsen, Sunday night’s premiere of “Million Dollar Password” was the highest rated show in its timeslot. And Regis Philbin is taking all the credit. The 76-year-old charmer doesn’t do much on the show, but that’s what makes him so … Continue reading

Brangelina Adding to Their Brood… and Other Celebrity Baby Bumps

Baby lovers Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt let a curve-hugging black dress confirm that they are adding to their growing brood. The dress—-worn by Jolie Saturday night to the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards—-hugged what sources close to the A-list couple are calling a “definite baby bump.” For months entertainment publications have been buzzing with Brangelina baby news, despite the fact that the parents of four children refuse to comment about adding to their family. The pair has yet to officially make a statement about Jolie’s pregnancy, but that hasn’t stopped several news organizations from announcing that the actress is due … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates: Regis Returns, Dannielynn Says Bye-Bye to the Bahamas, and More

REGIS RETURNS He’s baaaack! Talk show host Regis Philbin returned to his day job (and a standing ovation by hundreds of fans) today—six weeks after undergoing triple heart bypass surgery. Did you get to see any part of his return on “Live With Regis and Kelly?” I saw bits and pieces and agree with everyone who expressed amazement at how well Philbin looks. (Hard to believe he’s 75!) As promised David Letterman, host of CBS’”Late Show,” was Philbin’s first guest. Letterman called it “payback time.” (Philbin was a guest host when Letterman underwent heart bypass surgery in 2000). Philbin mentioned … Continue reading

Celebrities On the Road To Recovery

Just 48 hours and counting until Regis Philbin returns to his regular spot on the talk show that made him famous… Philbin’s co-host Kelly Ripa announced that her “big daddy” would be back on the set of “Live with Regis and Kelly” on Thursday—six weeks after having triple bypass surgery. And, if that wasn’t exciting enough (really… according to show producer Michael Gelman, tens of thousands of fans sent well wishes to “Reege” during his absence from the show) David Letterman will make a rare appearance as Philbin’s first guest. The billing it fitting… after all, Philbin was a guest … Continue reading

“Reege” Recovers

I don’t know exactly when it happened. My best guess is that it occurred sometime in college during my first stint as an intern at a local television station. It was then that I got hooked watching Regis Philbin’s morning talk show. Back then he shared airtime with Kathie Lee Gifford, but there was no question that he was the driving force behind the show. Fast-forward about 15 years and Reege is still on the air (though now with the ultra-peppy Kelly Ripa) and I check in every so often to reminisce about my carefree days as a college coed. … Continue reading

Kelly Ripa vs. Clay Aiken vs. Rosie O’Donnell

It’s a showdown only daytime television could create and one that has been fanned by the very thing that ensures its popularity—trash talk. If you are just “tuning in” to this daytime drama allow me to get you up to speed. Last Friday, Clay Aiken guest hosted “Live with Regis and Kelly.” During an interview with “Dancing with the Stars” winners Cheryl Burke and Emmitt Smith, Aiken put his hand over host Kelly Ripa’s mouth so he could interject a question. “Oh, that’s a no-no,” Ripa said, and added, “I don’t know where that hand’s been, honey!” It turned out … Continue reading
