Watch Out For Revenge

Many of us have come into single parenting with some pretty heavy anger and emotional issues. Even if we have done a lot of work to process those and work through to a healthier, happier place, we can still get struck and overwhelmed by feelings of wanting to seek revenge–as normal as it might be, this is not a road we want to start down as single parents… Feelings of wanting to seek revenge are feelings that never cease to surprise me when the sneak up on me! Charade – Gilbert Morris

Ollie Benson is a computer genius. He’s been working for years on a computer program to help people create movies at home, and as soon as he gets all the bugs worked out, he thinks it will be pretty cool. His ambitions don’t go much further than that, though – Ollie is a hundred pounds overweight and he doesn’t have very much self-esteem. He’s tried blind dating, but his appearance seems to repulse most women, and his hang-dog attitude doesn’t help, either. Indiscreet (1958)

In “Indiscreet,” Anna Kalman (Ingrid Bergman) is an actress who has earned a name for herself on the stage. Her career has kept her from meeting the man of her dreams, and she’s nearly given up hope that she’ll ever marry. But then she meets a co-worker of her brother-in-law’s, and her mind is changed. There’s just one problem – he’s married. But he’s … Continue reading

When Your Child Wants REVENGE

In my early experiences of trying to discipline my stepdaughter with ADHD, things got really rough. I mentioned in a previous blog that on one occasion we found that a can of paint had been mysteriously opened and poured purposely across our bathroom cabinets. We also found holes dug in the walls after we had tried standing her in the corner on an occasion when her behavior was outrageous. She had sneakily taken her fingernails and dug deep pits into the walls. How she did it without being observed is a mystery. On another occasion, she scribbled all over the … Continue reading

Overcome Evil with Good

Christians should always be set apart in the world. In the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5:13 Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.” Christians should be different from the world in everything that they do from the way they speak to the way they work. When dealing with enemies or others who might do evil to them, Christians have the opportunity to be a shining light … Continue reading
