Seven Years Later: Thoughts on the Pets of 9/11

What I Think About on 9/11

When I think about September 11, 2001, I don’t think of the terrorists. I don’t think about the conspiracy theories floating around out there that our own government is responsible for the attacks. I don’t think about how much it changed our world and how we live in it basically overnight. Remember the Date for Money

Today is certainly a day of remembrance and mourning for our country. But, it also can be a day of pride, particularly in terms of money and power. These terrorists didn’t randomly strike the World Trade Center; their intent was to break down the United States power. The power our country receives from its economy. Certainly the immediate effects of the September 11 tragedy caused a direct downturn of our financial systems, but it did not have the devastating results these terrorists had hoped for. The Day the United States once again became United

It’s the 6th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Like Pearl Harbor before it, September 11th is a day that will live in infamy for our generation. My daughter, who will be 7 in November, has no real clear cut idea of what today means. She just knows that today is a sad day. She cannot comprehend what happened. Five Years Later: Together We Stand …

This morning, I was driving my husband to work because there is a chance for heavy thunderstorms and since he rides a motorcycle most days, we’d rather he didn’t get drenched in a downpour. As we drove along in the car, we talked about September 11th and how we both cope with the memories of what happened today. Five Years Later: The Aftermath

Everything closed around us on September 11th as businesses retail and otherwise closed and sent their employees home. We gathered together, hugging our family and trying sometimes for hours to contact loved ones elsewhere to let them know we were okay. My nephew’s father called at one point – late in the evening after hours spent on both sides trying to contact each other. His relief that his son and his son’s mother were all right was palpable over the phone. Where Were You on September 11, 2001?

There are days in recent history that people will never forget. I remember folks from my parents’ generation saying they would never forget where they were or what they were doing when the beloved President John F. Kennedy was killed. There was also the Space Shuttle Challenger accident that people viewed on live television including many schoolchildren. Who could forget such incidents?           Let’s take a moment today to remember every person that passed on that fateful Tuesday, September 11, 2001. From those who lost their lives in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and United 93, to the first responders and the last responders, the latter of which are of course the men and women of our military. Monday is the sad anniversary of September 11, 2001. Stop and take a moment to remember. Do you remember all the American flags that flew that day and days after?
