Mississippi Finally Bans Slavery

America made slavery illegal in 1865, right?  Hum, some of the states may want to check their paperwork just to make sure. The state of Mississippi found itself finally formally ratifying the 13th Amendment – that one that abolished slavery – on February 7, 2013. Now as you can imagine, being a southern state, Mississippi officials were probably less than excited about ratifying this amendment back in the late 1800s.  So not eager to let this long standing tradition go, Mississippi officials didn’t even get around to voting on the ratification until 1995.  1995?  Yes, it was 130 years after … Continue reading

Review: Boom Blox Video Game

Think of Jenga with beavers. That will give you some idea about the Steven Spielberg game, Boom Blox. Boom Blox sets you in a far off land that would make any cubist proud. Your goal is to manipulate blocks (or blox) by knocking them down, grabbing them, pushing them, exploding them, shooting them, hosing them down, or building with them. This is all in the name of helping out small square animals that gleefully hop up and down when you win and sadly shake their heads when you lose. The characters names are cutsey and include the Bahhs, a sheep … Continue reading

Last Titanic Survivor Dies

Elizabeth Gladys “Millvina” Dean, the last remaining survivor of the Titanic, died today at the age of 97 in a private nursing home in Ashurst, England where she was living. Millvina didn’t have any personal memories of the sinking of the Titanic, the doomed luxury passenger liner. That is because at the time, she was just nine weeks old. She was on the Titanic with her mother Georgette, father Bertram Frank, and brother Bertram. While Millvina, Georgette, and Bertram survived, her father was among the 1,500 that died on April 14, 1912. The family was headed to Kansas to start … Continue reading

In case you have not heard, there was a small film that opened this week called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Of course, I am kidding – the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones series has been highly anticipated by fans since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was released in 1989. Yes, I said 1989 – it has been almost 20 years since Indiana Jones has graced the big screen. However, it must have seemed like yesterday to the fans. On the opening day, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull raked in … Continue reading

Valerie Bertinelli Dishes the Dirt

She was the epitome of the sweet All American girl next door when she starred on “One Day at a Time,” but even though she was married to her rock star husband for 24 years – a monstrous amount of time by Hollywood standards – Valerie Bertinelli didn’t always play the good girl in real life. In a revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey, Valerie had admitted to cheating on ex-hubby Eddie Van Halen. You can watch the entire interview on Oprah’s show Monday, but to tide you over until then, here are some of the juicy parts. Valerie says that … Continue reading
