What Would You Do For Love of Your Spouse?

What would you do for love? Sometimes it might be crazy thing. Or it might be giving up of your time to support your spouse and do something that is important or interesting to them. Yesterday we were at an Australia Day ceremony where a number of immigrants had decided to become Australian citizens. It was lovely to see their families supporting them. Just as important to me was that Mick went with me. Our choir was singing as we usually do at the Australia Day ceremony. We were supposed to sing at 12 but had to be there earlier … Continue reading

Marriage is a Compromise

Yesterday Mick and I saw The Dark Knight. Having seen Batman Begins recently on DVD, I was mildly curious to see The Dark Knight but knew he really wanted to see it. Though happy to go along, I expected he’d enjoy the movie more than I did. The Dark Knight was what I refer to as a ‘boy movie’ with lots of action, violence and things blowing up right left and centre. Of course it was also more than that and made me think about some themes it raised, but that happened after, not while, watching the movie. If you … Continue reading

What Price a Hero?

I’m feeling stunned. I’ve just come back from watching The Dark Knight. Like a lot of people I couldn’t help but be affected by Heath Ledger as the Joker and couldn’t help but wonder whether playing a part like that every day would somehow affect the psyche of the person playing the part. Is it as easy as that for an actor to switch off? What do others think? As we left one of the part owners of our local movie theatre commented, ‘Even when he’s not on screen, you’re waiting all the time for the Joker to come on.’ … Continue reading

Bernie Mac’s Health and Mary-Kate’s Heath

Bernie Mac has been hospitalized for pneumonia, but a source, who reportedly knows Mac’s family, told the Chicago Sun-Times that the comedian is in “very, very critical condition.” Bernie Mac’s publicist, Danica Smith, calls it a “very horrible rumor,” saying that there is no truth to it at all. Mac was admitted to a Chicago hospital (his hometown) on August 1, but Smith said he was responding well and was expected to be released soon. Mac had previously been diagnosed with sarcoidosis, a chronic inflammatory disease, in his lungs, but Smith said this bout with pneumonia is not related to … Continue reading

The Dark Knight – PG-13 (2008)

Last night at 12:01 a.m. I sat down in a packed theater to watch The Dark Knight, the latest Batman film directed by Christopher Nolan and featuring Christian Bale in the titular role. The Dark Knight is an amazing cinematic feat that I will do my best to cover, but I honestly do not believe any review will do it justice. Heath Ledger Heath Ledger died shortly before the film was completed. His fellow actors have been lobbying to get him an Oscar nomination for his work as the penultimate Batman villain: Joker. It needs to be said that their … Continue reading

Merry Matilda… Maybe

Looking at her bright smile you would never know that 2-year-old Matilda Rose Ledger has been handed a fate most of us can only pray never befalls our own children. The sweet-natured toddler is the daughter of actress Michelle Williams and the late Heath Ledger. Matilda’s name was splashed in the headlines a few weeks back when the actor’s will was made public. And just when that mini drama appeared to be fading from the front pages the little girl and her mom once again became fodder for the forums. Lately, Internet forums dedicated to celebrity offspring have been buzzing … Continue reading
