Your Cat’s Tongue

What does your cat’s tongue feel like? Sandpaper? Little pins? Unlike a dog’s tongue, a cat’s tongue has some very special features. A cat’s tongue has a special area in the center. In the center of your cat’s tongue are papillae — little hooked, hair-like growths that face towards the back of the mouth. These strong hooks are made from keratin (the same stuff found in human fingernails). What are papillae used for? Self-grooming. The hooks help clean and separate the cat’s fur. This doesn’t mean your cat won’t appreciate some help with grooming sometimes! Brushing your cat can help … Continue reading

How God’s Word convicts

Today I’m detouring into a psalm to show how God speaks to us right where we are. This morning I read psalm 52. This psalm of David starts off with a tirade against Doeg the Edomite who informed Saul that David sheltered with Ahimelech, the priest, who gave him food and a sword, 1 Samuel 21: 1-10. What on earth could this have to do with you or me I hear you ask? Keep reading. Though David escaped capture, as a result of the information given by Doeg to King Saul, Ahimelech and his family of priests were killed for … Continue reading

I’d Never Do That!

Have you ever watched people yelling at their kids or arguing with their spouse, in a public place and thought I’d never do that? Or seen someone react to a generous offer by brushing the person’s generosity aside with a curt ‘No, I’m okay,’ and think I’d never do that? Or hear someone pay a compliment to another and hear it brushed aside by the pious comment, ‘It’s the Lord doing it.’ Do you ever see Christians in the news for all the wrong reasons as mentioned in the blog I read this morning about ‘Christians behaving badly’ and think … Continue reading

Careless Words

Our words and our actions reveal who we are. No where is this more true than with family. With family we tend to let our guard down. With family we often behave in a way we would not with other people. This is often because we know family will love us no matter what we say or do. And so it is easy to slip into an attitude of spilling out exactly how we feel when we are angry or hurt or upset. Yes, I’m talking from experience here. God showed me only this week that I still have to … Continue reading

Taking Your Thoughts Into Captivity

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5) Other translations say, “bringing every thought into captivity”. This scripture is so awesome. Within, I gather our weapons of battle are eternal in God and with them we can take captive even our thoughts that are not in line with Christ’s will. There are lying and deceiving spirits out there. I don’t believe even the most righteous … Continue reading

Controlling the Mind and the Heart

While I was reading through a few of the Psalms trying to decide what to write on for this blog, I actually came across a passage at the end of Psalm 19. I mentioned part of Psalm 19 in a blog a couple of days ago; however, I completely neglected reading the end of the Psalm at the time. Psalm 19:4 states: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” What a powerful and thought-provoking verse! The verse hits on two different aspects of … Continue reading
