Home Based Business Idea – Translator

If you are proficient in a second (or third, or fourth) language, your language skills may qualify you for home – based freelance work as a translator. Translators can work full time or part time, just like any other freelancers. It is possible that you might not have thought about looking for work as a translator because there did not seem to be an immediate need for translators that speak your languages in your geographic area. Fortunately, we live in a world where your translation talents can be accessed by clients in the next town, or halfway around the world. … Continue reading

Are You Letting God Speak to You?

Did you read God’s Word this morning? Or was it a week ago, a month maybe longer since you opened the bible and allowed God to speak to you? Are you thankful each day for the great blessing of being able to read God’s Word? Do you realize what a privilege and joy it is to be able to do this? For many people in our world this is not the reality because they do not have a bible in their own language. In 2006, for the first time in South Eastern Mexico, 200,000 Huasteca Nahuatl (pronounced Was-te-ca Nah What-l) … Continue reading

Chapters and Verses in the Bible

I referred you to BYU broadcast a few months ago, and I would like to now share something with you that I learned from a recent talk. The talk, entitled “Books, Paragraphs, Chapters, and Verses in the New Testament,” was given by David R. Seely during the Sperry Symposium. However, there was one point that really stuck out to me. The point that Seely made was that the verse and chapter breaks we have … Continue reading

Islam and the Non-Muslim Wife

In my last entry, I discussed the non-Muslim woman who is considering marriage to a Muslim man. I explained the role of Islam in a man’s life and in his children’s. Now, let’s discuss the role of Islam in the life of the non-Muslim wife. Yes, I know that sounds contradictory, but it isn’t. Really. First of all, Muslim men are free to marry “People of the Book.” This means that a Muslim man can marry a practicing Christian or Jew. If you are neither of these, run! Your marriage will not be accepted Islamically, and chances are good that … Continue reading

What is a Siddur?

A Siddur, to simply explain, is a prayer book. During times of prayer, a Siddur is used. Jews do not read through the entire prayer book at every service. Depending on the service, is the part of the Siddur which is used. For example, on Shabbat morning (Saturday), the Shabbat morning service is recited. This includes the Shema, the Amidah, the Torah or opening of the ark (Beit Hamikdash), ceremony, and the conclusion (Alaynu). Many of the services share similar if not the same prayers. The Kaddesh is a prayer repeated throughout a service. It is said for anyone who … Continue reading
