My Fascination with the Real Housewives of Orange County

Wayne might be fascinated with Cheaters, but I have my own guilty pleasure TV indulgence: Bravo’s the Real Housewives of Orange County. It plays off the success and popularity of other shows of similar, though fictional, ilk: ABC’s Desperate Housewives and Fox’s cancelled series the O.C. The Real Housewives, however, is a reality show following the lives of real women. The show’s name is sort of a misnomer, though. Some of the “housewives” don’t stay home at all. They not only work but are incredibly successful. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, two of them –Jeana and Vicki– own their … Continue reading

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy Cancelled

I woke up this morning to, what to me at least, is sad news. I read in the Internet Movie Database news section that Queer Eye for the Straight Guy has been cancelled. The groundbreaking Bravo show is only in its third season, but as one host (Jai Rodriguez) said, it seems longer because of overexposure. In case you have never seen Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, it was based on the premise that five gay men could come into the less than spectacular home of a straight man and make it over in a very fashionable way. But … Continue reading

Top Chef Finale Part 1: Las Vegas

Top Chef Finale Part 1: Las Vegas Dave got sent home this week, leaving Harold and Tiffani to duke it out for the title of Top Chef. The only thing that was surprising about it was that this time, he didn’t deserve to go home. Dave’s been the underdog up until the finale, where he performed, in this blogger’s humble opinion, much better than Tiffani, but was sent packing anyway. His mistake was not following the directions on one of the challenges. There were three challenges, each a “room service” order to be made in 30 minutes. One for some … Continue reading

Top Chef Episode 6: Under Pressure

Ted Allen from Bravo’s Queer Eye was the guest judge on last night’s episode of Top Chef. The contestants were obviously excited to meet him and to cook for him and his friends at a dinner party at restaurant Frisson. The chefs were also excited to finally get a chance to cook something of their choosing and really shine. They each chose a course of a multi-course meal and went to work purchasing ingredients. When all the planning and purchasing was done, the producers pulled a nasty trick to see how the chefs would do under pressure. They randomly reassigned … Continue reading

Top Chef

As a fan of all things culinary, I can’t wait for a new show that’s premiering on Bravo next Wednesday, March 8th, after the finale of Project Runway. It’s called Top Chef and is a reality-show competition, pitting twelve chefs against each other in a series of challenges. The winner, after ten one-hour episodes, will be crowned the Top Chef. I already love Project Runway on Bravo, the show that Top Chef is modeled after. It’s not your standard reality-show fare, because real talent is involved. If these chefs are as good as the designers are on Project Runway, I … Continue reading
