Is Your Beauty Routine Filled with Chemicals?

When thinking about living green, you may not think about stuff like cosmetics. I know I’ve never thought to check the label of my deodorant, toothpaste, soap, and makeup, but after reading about some of the things that are in there, I have decided to start reading closely. I read a statistic online that said that we could be exposing ourselves to 200 or more toxins when just getting ready for the day. What are some hidden toxins you want to avoid in your cosmetic routine? If you suffer from dandruff, you may want to read the label of your … Continue reading

Society’s Obsession

One of the other ways we see this obsession with being forever young is people’s refusal to deal with death. For many it is the taboo topic. They don’t even want to think about their own mortality. It’s reflected in the way people try and skirt around the topic of death, by using expressions like ‘passed over,’ or ‘lost their loved one,’ etc. Once when I mentioned ‘a friend who died’ the person I was talking to, looked at me in horror as though I had said something wrong. Mick and I both tend to ‘call a spade a spade.’ … Continue reading

Beauty, Inside or Out?

An article in Southern Cross magazine declared that, ‘on any given day, the average Australian woman draws from a collection of $100 to $400 worth of cosmetic products to look after and make up her face.’ I was astounded and horrified when I read this statement. But what about this one? ‘One of the three women interviewed by the Herald Sun for a “face-off” of beauty products and their costs admitted the total contents of her make-up drawer are worth over $5000.’ Don’t get me wrong I’m not suggesting Christian women should not wear make up. I don’t feel dressed … Continue reading

Find Quality Make Up For Less

Women buy a lot of makeup and cosmetics. For many women, its the way they feel put together, or ‘divalicious’ as I like to refer to it. However, makeup and other types of cosmetics can get expensive over time. There is good news though, you can save money on makeup and get it for less, while still enjoying wearing it. I would like to introduce you to Eyes, Lips and Face – commonly referred to as ELF. This particular website has an absolutely stunning array of makeup colors and products. They have been featured in all of the hottest trendy … Continue reading

Fashion Forward: Wedgie-Proof Underwear

Forget about Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Donna Karan, the hottest fashion designers on the block these days are 8-year-old twin boys. If you tuned into “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” last week you might be familiar with Justin and Jared Serovich’s fashion forward creation—-wedgie-proof underwear also known as the “Rip Away 1000.” The boys rigged boxer shorts and fabric fasteners to hold together some seams—and voila—instant protection from underwear grabbing bullies. “When the person tries to grab you and tries to give you a wedgie – they just rip away,” Justin explained to DeGeneres. The third graders say they came … Continue reading

Fashion Forward: Charitable Cosmetics

What mom doesn’t owe Bird Bird, Elmo, Ernie and Mister Rogers a debt of gratitude? If you are not a regular contributor to the Public Broadcasting Service, which broadcasts family-friendly favorites such as Sesame Street, Between the Lions and Reading Rainbow, here’s a chance to give back and smell good while doing so. As you well know, PBS is a non-profit organization that relies on donations, mostly from viewers. To help out the network that airs so many educational programs, the famous beauty brand, Philosophy (which is extremely popular with celebrities) has decided to support the network’s fundraising efforts by … Continue reading

Drew The Cover Girl

I wonder if I’m the only one who is surprised with the celebrities CoverGirl cosmetics chooses to be their newest faces? Surprised–in a good way. For example, Queen Latifah, Molly Sims and R&B star Rihanna were all recently named as CoverGirl spokes models. Now a former wild child (of sorts) is joining the cosmetics sorority. CoverGirl just announced that actress Drew Barrymore is joining the ranks of Cheryl Tiegs, Rachel Hunter, Christie Brinkley, and Tyra Banks to become the newest radiant face of the popular cosmetics company. According to the company, the 32-year-old actress just wrapped up the CoverGirl spots … Continue reading

Throw Away Your Mascara Forever

Some women have been able to throw out their eyeliner and eyebrow pencils forever by undergoing “permanent make up surgery.” It is a type of cosmetic surgery that permanently tattoos make up on a person’s skin. If the idea of ditching your eyeliner intrigues you, you may be happy to know that there’s now a new procedure that will allow you to further lighten your makeup bag. It’s called eyelash extensions and it allows women to get rid of their mascara forever—without going under the knife. The eyelash extension procedure does not require surgery; rather it is done by salon … Continue reading

You Don’t Have To Be A Celebrity To Have Skin Like One

I’ve written about trendy beauty products in previous blogs, but this product is one I can see myself stocking up on. Fashion magazines are full of ads for beauty products that claim to revitalize your skin or minimize wrinkles, blah, blah, blah. What I need is help for the skin on my hands (and cheeks), which really take a beating this time of year. Each fall/early winter I convince myself that I can get away with not wearing gloves, only to pay for my mistake later with cracked and bleeding skin. Chances are you may have experienced the same type … Continue reading

Weight Loss Lip Gloss

You’ve heard of the blush that helps chisel your cheeks, the mascara that promises to plump up your eyelashes, and the foundation that claims to give you a “healthy glow.” Well, how about the lip gloss that promises to take off pounds, lift your mood, even curb the urge to smoke. Cosmetics companies are in the business of making a multitude of claims, but rarely do I buy into any of them. But, when I heard that a product called Loss Gloss Blast claimed that it could “take inches off your hips,” I was intrigued. The manufacturer says that the … Continue reading
