Affordable Halloween Couples Costumes

I recently suggested to my fellow blogger Andrea that her husband and her daughter should consider dressing up in coordinating Halloween costumes before heading out to trick-or-treat. After all, you don’t have to be married to dress up in couples’ costumes. Brothers and sisters, two friends, classmates or a pair of cousins could easily pull off the following looks: Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm: This is a cute idea for kids of the same age and height. If you don’t have another child to pair up with, you could use the idea for a parent/child costume and have mom or dad dress … Continue reading

Fun Group Halloween Costumes

A couple of years ago one of the moms in my daughter’s playgroup suggested that we dress our kids in coordinating Halloween costumes for our city’s annual Boo Bash. She thought it would be cute to have each child dress up as a zoo animal. My daughter chose a monkey costume. The other playgroup kids attended the event dressed as a horse, lion, peacock, and penguin. Meanwhile, the moms dressed as zookeepers. It was fun, and we got a ton of positive feedback from fellow Boo Bashers. If you are looking to step it up this October, and really show … Continue reading

Make Your Own Halloween Costumes

Are you that mom? My fellow blogger Andrea is not. At least not when it comes to Halloween costumes. Interestingly, I was not raised by that mom. My mom is extremely crafty, and throughout my childhood her exceptional creativity gave birth to many homemade Halloween costumes. Like Andrea, my mom designed dozens of funny, scary, cute and crazy getups for her children each October. The following costume ideas are oldies but goodies and are just as easy to make today as they were decades ago. What’s more, they are a lot cheaper than the overpriced store versions: Clown: Dig around … Continue reading

Halloween Costumes for Cats

Last year I wrote about Halloween costumes for dogs, Halloween food goodies for pets, and Halloween toys for pets, which included a tub full of toys for cats, but I didn’t specifically cover Halloween products for cats. So this year I thought I’d shake it up and write about Halloween costumes for cats. Halloween costumes for cats? Really? Unless my two were sedated (heavily I might add) there’s no way they’d let me dress them up. Especially not in most of the costumes I’ve seen which all seem to include head gear as part of the getup. But if your … Continue reading

Dancing with Your Dog: Music and Costume Ideas

Ever since I interviewed Beth Terrell and she introduced me to the world of puppy dancing, I find myself thinking about music and costume ideas. I swear, once we get Murph’s paw healed, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if I enroll us in a puppy dancing class. There are so many opportunities to get creative! Music Ideas Beth may have been the catalyst that got me started thinking about dancing with my dog, but the Greatest American Dog’s Dancing with the Dogs episode was the one that got me thinking about the music. In that episode, the contestants had … Continue reading

Halloween Chaos

There is something about Halloween that lends itself to chaos. It seems no matter how prepared I have tried to be over the years, or how much planning and careful scheduling I have put in to making sure the holiday runs smoothly—it is always a mass of last-minute changes, chaos, and flexibility. I think I should like to blame all the candy for all the chaos, but I think it is really the very nature of the holiday that does it! Last minute costume changes, last minute costumes, replacing treats that have run out, party plan changes, school parties, work … Continue reading

Save Money on Halloween Costumes

Halloween costumes are getting very expensive. I remember as a child going to the five and dime to pick out a vinyl costume complete with mask. For a few dollars, I could be anything I wanted, from Wonder Woman to a skeleton. Today, it is not unusual to spend $40-50 on average per costume. But there are ways to save money and still get a great costume for your kids or yourself. Here are a few ideas you can use. Disney I love the Disney store costumes. They are well made, sturdy and generally very warm. Plus they come in … Continue reading
