Learn While Lazing at Aulani

Last time I looked at Aulani, Disney’s newest (and first) resort in Hawaii the details were still conceptual. Now that Aulani prepares to open its doors at the end of August, it’s time to take another, much more definitive look at what’s sure to be one luxurious hotel. Over the past few months the Disney Park blog has published several sneak previews of the resort. I’ve browsed through many of the recent ones to present a more rounded picture to bring to you today. Aulani will be open to the public and will also contain lodgings exclusively for Disney Vacation … Continue reading

Fun for Grown-Ups at Disney: The Spas

When I last talked about fun things for adults to do alone at Disney, I highlighted a fast-paced thrill ride. Today I’m going to talk about a service Disney features that is perfect for winding down after racing around the tracks at the Richard Petty Experience: spas. Several of the hotels at Disney Parks have spas, but Disney World in particular boasts a few larger ones worthy of note: the Grand Floridian, Saratoga Springs, and Mandara. These three offer an extra level of pampering ideal for a vacation all about taking time to relax. The Balinese-themed Mandara spa can actually … Continue reading

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

I’ve always loved this resort. The image of this massive, concrete A-frame building with a monorail going through the middle of it was the epitome of modern when I was a kid. This 15 story 1,041 room monstrosity is in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area and is bordered by Bay Lake. Its rooms have fantastic views of the Magic Kingdom and nightly fireworks from Cinderella’s Castle. Standard rooms at the Contemporary offer guests two queen sized or one king sized bed and a daybed, table and chairs, ceiling fan, data-port, in room safe and voicemail. Many of the rooms here … Continue reading

Disney Bans Smoking in Disney Hotels

If I ever needed another excuse to stop smoking, then Walt Disney World hotels have just announced one. Beginning June 1, all Disney owned hotels will be banning smoking in their rooms and on their balconies. Disney-owned time-shares will also be banning the smoking of cigars or cigarettes. The hotels and time-share properties will provide designated smoking areas away from the rooms and balconies. This ban will make Disney the single largest resort company to take such a step. According to Disney World Senior Vice President, Erin Wallace: We’ve just continued to see the demand for smoking decline, and in … Continue reading

The Grand Floridian – Why Should You Stay There?

The Grand Floridian is an experience I think that every Disney World visitor should have. My husband I stayed there during our honeymoon and I look forward to our next opportunity. But for now, let me tell you about the Grand Floridian. It’s a beautiful hotel and extremely clean. It’s right off the Monorail so you’re a one-hop stop away from the Magic Kingdom. You can also take the boat over if you want and both are great ways to arrive at the Magic Kingdom. The main building of the Grand Floridian is all about great service and beautiful entertainment. … Continue reading

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – A Review

Are you considering a trip to Disney World soon? Are you looking at all the different Disney World resorts and trying to figure out which one will be the best to stay at for you and your family? Let me share with you my experiences staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in October of 2005. Deluxe Resort Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is considered one of the deluxe resorts and it’s actually located the furthest from all the theme parks save for the Animal Kingdom itself. The Lodge offers Savannah view rooms that look out over part of the Animal Kingdom’s … Continue reading

My Disney Passion

Good morning, I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself here as it’s the first time I’ve gotten to write for the Disney (Unofficial) blog and though I am a lifelong fan and I’ve visited Disneyland and Disney World several times, I’ve rarely gotten the opportunity to share my passion for all things Disney outside the family. Disney Through the Years My first Disney World visit occurred at the age of 1, though I do not remember it, my love for all things Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck seems to have always been a part of my life. … Continue reading

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground

Yes, believe it or not, Walt Disney World does have a campground! It is called Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. The Fort Wilderness Resort isn’t all wilderness and you don’t really have to rough it, but you can. Following are the economical options available at this resort that is just a (free) water launch or bus ride away from the Magic Kingdom: • Partial hook-up campsites where you can pitch a tent or a pop up camper and still have water and electricity. • Full Hook-Up Campsite where you can hitch your RV up to water, electricity and sewer. … Continue reading
