Finding Time for Personal Projects and a Business

Time management is one of those issues we talk about regularly around here in the home business Blog–but it is usually in relation to how to balance home business responsibilities with family life. For some of us, figuring out how to find time for our own personal projects can further exacerbate the time management dilemma. In addition to running my own home-based business and working a more “traditional” (albeit flexible) job and raising a family as a single parent, I am also working on “the book.” Having been published in other genre, I’m determined that my version of a writing … Continue reading

Home Improvement: Is it Time for a Break?

Be careful not to work your volunteer helpers too hard when doing home improvement projects. When it’s time to take a little break, be sure to praise everyone for their hard work. Offer refreshments, turn on some music, and blow off a little steam with these simple games. Besides allowing you to lighten things up for a few minutes during projects, playing these games may also help inspire new ideas. Give everyone involved in the project a piece of paper and a pencil. Have them write the words Home Improvement across the top of the page. Set a time limit … Continue reading

Since Mother’s Day is next month, just a couple of weeks away in fact, I will be posting several Mother’s Day Gift Ideas that children can make. If you are a mom, you might want to let your children page through the ideas and pick something out to make for you. Have an older person help them look … Continue reading

Break out the Spray Paint

I used to think that in order to achieve a quality paint job everything had to be hand painted. I rarely used spray paint. I had seen designers on home improvement shows use spray paint, and learned that it is important to spray it lightly and evenly. You don’t want drips, and that’s what you’ll get if you stand too close or spray too heavily. It’s best to apply several light coats. I learned to love spray paint when I tried to hand paint the drawer fronts of an old dresser I had. They were textured in a faux wicker/bamboo … Continue reading

Edible Craft Projects

Okay, Mom and Dad, here are some fun ways to get your kids to eat, although you will have to lift the rule about playing with food, at least temporarily. Sunny Snack Place a pancake or waffle in the center of each child’s plate. Give your children blueberries to make eyes and a nose for the face. Use thin slices of cantaloupe for the smile. Slice strawberries and surround the outside edge of the pancake or waffle with the slices, all the way around the plate. Make sure the wide end is near the pancake or waffle and the point … Continue reading
