Happy Birthday, EPCOT!

I know, I know. The acronym EPCOT was dropped back in 1994 for the simple non-word Epcot. EPCOT originally stood for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. It was Walt Disney’s dream that EPCOT would be a real city. Walt’s dream was to create the perfect city with a central commercial area surrounded by a residential community. The plan was to have 20,000 residents who would try out new ideas and materials that would eliminate the social ills found in other American cities. Mission: Space Becomes More Accessible To All Riders

After bouncing back from two ride related deaths (if one can truly do that), Disney World has begun to offer a “soup-downed” version of Mission Space for riders who are prone to motion sickness and heart problems. For riders who have serious heart conditions or experience claustrophobia, this may be just what the doctor ordered. Literally. The ride which, basically, places riders in a large cylinder and “spins” them around (much like the popular ride at state fairs that is usually referred to as “The Graviton”) causing riders to experience G-force conditions as they ride. Every year, thousands of people around the world come to Florida to celebrate the Holiday Season. It’s not because the weather is warmer or the palm trees are simply a nice change from the evergreens of the great and sometimes not-so-white North (snowfall varies, after all). Nope.
