Strange Potty Breaks

My 5-year-old is not big on using “strange” potties. And by strange I mean public. Automatic-flush toilets freak her out, and wouldn’t you know that nearly every public restroom we’ve ever had to use featured these high-tech commodes. Whereas I appreciate not having to see the remnants of a previous user’s bowels in a public toilet, clearly the designers of automatic-flush potties were not thinking of how scary it would be for a child to sit on a device that sounds as though it could suck them down whole if he or she takes too long going number one (or … Continue reading

Clever Mom Awards

Moms everywhere do a million, no make that a billion little things for their family that hardly go noticed. Well, I for one think that there should be some acknowledgment somewhere for all of the things that moms do (and yes, I am a mom, so I am biased). This is even more-so for all of the clever solutions that moms dream up in order to just get through the day. Hey, we can’t be everywhere at once, and multitasking can only be taken so far. Even though we have eyes in the back of our heads, we still only … Continue reading

You Tube Babies!

If you need a little pick me up in the day, why not check out You Tube? Sure you can find episodes of the Tudors or Lost, but for something that is baby-friendly and will make even your little ones smile when they are cranky, why not check out some of the cutest baby videos. It may even serve as a reminder that although you’ve cleaned up baby poop all day, it is still worth it. Here are some of my favorite You Tube Babies. Hahaha There are actually a couple of version of this video out there. I don’t … Continue reading

Friday Funny: Boy Were They Wrong!

In 1949, Popular Mechanics predicted that in the future “Computers may weigh no more than 1.5 tons.” Well, we all know how off that one was. Check out some of these very funny quotes and predictions made by famous people and publications about computers and technology. “There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.” Ken Olsen, the president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corp. (1977) “Computers are useless. They can only give you answers.” Pablo Picasso. “The cloning of humans is on most of the lists of things to worry about from Science, along with … Continue reading

Humor: National Grump Out Day

Here is another obscure holiday that you can have fun celebrating at home. Today, may 7th is National Grump Out Day for the United States of America. During this holiday, we are all supposed to stamp out grumpiness and eradicate it wherever we find it, whether it be in our selves or in others. No matter how sleep deprived you are, no matter how awful your boss is, you are simply not allowed to be grumpy (that is if you want to celebrate). It is hard not to have fun with this holiday, although I don’t know if it will … Continue reading

Funny Apple Ad Features Santa

I just love those Apple ads that pit the PC guy against the Mac guy. They are so very entertaining in a way that doesn’t put the competitor down. I frequently go to Apple.com just to view the ads. They are just excellent. This latest ad is no exception. Posted on Apple’s homepage, it features the Mac guy, the PC guy and Santa Claus in animation, reminiscent of the classic Rankin-Bass holiday television features, such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Year Without A Santa Claus (Remember freeze-miser?). In the ad, the Mac and the PC get together with … Continue reading

The Snowman Conspiracy (2)

What happens when a blogger starts noticing the snowmen. Is she right or just crazy? This is part two of The Snowman Conspiracy. Those are so easy to collect aren’t they? My collection first started with a Christmas gift from our in-laws. It is the cutest door sign that is personalized with our name. It features three snow people, two adults and a child, a representation of our family at the time. We still cherish it and display it, even though our family has grown from three members to five. After that, we just had to have some stuffed snow … Continue reading

Places I’ve Spotted the Funniest Halloween Couple Costumes

Cat in the Hat Wayne and Saloon Girl Courtie Earlier this month Karri posted some really great suggestions for couple costumes. (I loved the Baker and Bun in the Oven one…I thought that was so cute!) It caught my attention because every year I scour through catalogs and Internet sites looking for couple costume ideas. Wayne and I always dress up, but we’ve never dressed up to compliment one another. He’s always his own unique thing separate from whatever I choose. (Mainly because Wayne’s a prankster and gravitates towards comical costumes, whereas I go the adventurous route –pirates, saloon girls, … Continue reading

Top Ten Articles You Will Never See In the Ensign

Every month, we have the opportunity to have a wonderful magazine delivered to our doorsteps. Inside, we can find uplifting and inspiring articles to help us on our spiritual walk. We can read stories of how people applied the gospel in their day-to-day lives. We can find talks to help us with our Sunday School and Relief Society preparation. We can learn about the church around the world. But there are many things we won’t find in the church magazine. Here are just a few titles that you may as well not send in, since we will never find them … Continue reading

Toddler Stand Up Comedy

In the words of Uncle Albert in Mary Poppins, “I love to laugh, loud and long and clear!” On most days, I think we have a blast in my house. We love to laugh, and laugh often. However, other than one basic knock-knock joke we tried to teach our girl last year, we have never approached structured comedy with her. That old one involved a banana and an orange as the punch line. Recently, we tipped our family toe a bit further into the comedic waters. We just got our hands on a clever new book called Mama’s little book … Continue reading
