“General Hospital” Book Debuts in April

I knew that Disney liked to publish books that tie-in with its other properties. Browsing the children’s section at any library or bookstore will reveal a plethora of titles sharing their names with popular Disney movies and television series. I’m sure that the young adult sections also contain titles continuing the adventures of popular Disney Channel characters for the teen set. But I never anticipated Disney publishing novels for adults based on figures from its non-branded channels. Then I read the news from Stitch Kingdom; that’s exactly what’s happening as the Disney-owned Hyperion Books plans to release a novel based … Continue reading

Celebrities Who Had Baseball Dreams – Part 2

Another baseball season has kicked off and there are a least a few celebrities who, at one time, hoped to be on a diamond instead of on the big or small screen. Actor Kurt Russell’s father was a baseball player and Kurt had hoped to follow in his footsteps. Russell played second base for the Double-A minor league affiliate of the California Angels. He was leading the league in hitting with a .563 batting average before a collision with a player running to second base. Russell suffered a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder and had to retire from … Continue reading

Calling All Iraq War Veterans—Your Chance to be a TV Star

The hundreds of thousands of men and women who risk their lives on a daily basis protecting our country are stars in their own right, only not all of them can brag that they made it on TV because of their jobs… until now. The mega-popular soap opera “All My Children” is holding an open casting call for an Iraq war veteran to play an injured veteran. That’s right; instead of taking the easy way out by hiring an actor to play the part, the ABC daytime serial is about to make history by inviting veterans to contact the show’s … Continue reading

Happy Birthday “General Hospital”

When I was in college I was a die-hard “General Hospital” fan. Okay, maybe I wasn’t as crazed as some other girls who rearranged their class schedule so they could watch the show each day at 2 p.m., but I was pretty dedicated. Looking back I’m not sure what it was about this particular soap that hooked me. It was probably because at the time it starred some of the best looking guys on daytime TV. But I digress. The popular soap opera is celebrating a major milestone–45 years on TV. “General Hospital” is ABC’s longest-running daytime series and has … Continue reading

Welcome Home Laura!

Laura Spencer returns to General Hospital this week and it’s an event worth mentioning. More than 20 million viewers watched the wedding of Luke and Laura Spencer and for the last four years, Luke has been flying solo on the soap opera while ‘wife’ Laura languishes in a catatonic state off-screen. The absence of Laura is something many fans have been feeling over the last few years as Laura’s children have gone through their ups and downs and Luke has suddenly become this deadbeat dad (something he never was when Laura was up and about.) In Laura’s absence, her eldest … Continue reading

Luke and Laura—Back Together Again!

“General Hospital” fans are ecstatic (at least I am) about the news that Luke and Laura Spencer (the ABC soap opera’s most popular couple) will be reunited once again. According to ABC, Genie Francis, who originated the role of Laura nearly 30 years ago, will return to the show to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Luke and Laura’s wedding. The fictional wedding, seen by 30 million viewers on Nov. 16, 1981, is still ranked as one of the most watched shows in television history. At the time, there was so much hype surrounding the TV nuptials that Newsweek magazine put … Continue reading

Think of Laura – 25 Years Later

There is a great deal of press being generated about the return of Genie Francis to General Hospital after a 4 year absence and her return will coincide with the date that riveted the world and made the covers of People and Time Magazines among others — Luke and Laura Spencer will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their wedding that garnered the highest ratings of any soap opera event in recent memory. For those who have not watched or kept up, Luke and Laura married in a spectacular ceremony that brought Elizabeth Taylor to the screen as the despicable Helena … Continue reading

A Departure of Sorts

I have a bit of a departure from my normal marriage blogs – though since this is an ever changing, ever evolving blog – I guess it wouldn’t necessarily be a departure from the “norm” so much as treading into new ground. Over the years, I’ve observed how our culture views marriage both in our literature and in our entertainment through movies and television. The one model of entertainment that addresses marriage over and over again is the soap opera. For more than 50 years soap operas have been among the dominant forms of daytime entertainment and even rising to … Continue reading
