New Members of the Billionaire Boys Club: Jack Sparrow & Will Turner

Last Friday, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest crossed the 1 billion dollar mark at the global box office and is the third film in history to cross that finish line following in such great footsteps as Titanic and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Disney is justifiably proud of their accomplishment since the film has been breaking records all over the world including holding the current #1 film spot for 2006 in the U.S. box office along with the #1 in the international box office. The Dead Man’s Chest opened in Italy yesterday and the … Continue reading

The Flying Dutchman Makes a Visit to Disney’s Castaway Cay

I know, I know. You’re probably sick and tired of hearing about Pirates of the Caribbean, right? Record-breaking box office, new additions to the theme park attraction and even Pirates themed Happy Meals at McDonald’s. Yada, yada, yada. However, when I first saw the press photos from Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, of a morbid looking ship moored at the shoreline, I couldn’t resist stepping back into the subject of Pirates. Vacationers who take a trip on Disney’s Cruise Line to Disney’s Castaway Cay might be surprised to find Davy Jones’ ship, The Flying Dutchman, waiting for them as they … Continue reading

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest Review

Again, during the summer, there are a number of films rated PG-13 that your children will either beg to see or you will want to take them for the enjoyment of the film yourself. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is certainly one of those films. I went to see the film opening night. The theatre was packed and behind us sat a church group of children 8-12. And as much as I loved the film, I can’t help but wonder how many those kids had trouble falling asleep that night. Make no mistake, despite what critics might say, … Continue reading

Jack Sparrow Debuts at Walt Disney World and Disneyland

Jack Sparrow peers at visitors as they ride through the revamped attraction For quite sometime, I’ve been posting about the upcoming changes to Walt Disney World and Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Following the phenomenal success of Disney’s film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the classic attraction enjoyed a second wind of popularity. An Imagineer puts the finishing touches on Captain Jack. And just as the ride inspired the film, the film now inspires the ride. Walt Disney Imagineers have been hard at work for the past year creating new animatronics and special effects … Continue reading

What To Expect With Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest

On July 2, the second installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy will be released in the United States. As a fan of the first film, I can tell you that fans of the film are extremely anxious to see where this film takes the series flagship character, Captain Jack Sparrow. For those of you who have seen the first film, you’re well aware of the fact that the film’s villainous pirate captain, Barbossa, was taken out at the end of the film. So who’s the villain of this installment? Here for you, is a rundown of the new … Continue reading

It’s Official! Pirates of the Caribbean Ramps Up For Changes

If you remember, earlier I posted about possible changes to Pirates of the Caribbean within the Disneyland California and Disney World theme parks. Just yesterday, however, Disney confirmed the changes with an official press release. According to the press release, Disneyland California’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction will re-open with the specified changes on June 24 and Walt Disney World Florida’s attraction will re-open on July 7. While many purists worry that these changes will dampen the experience, it is important to note that the ride is not changing so much as having a nice, thin layer added to the … Continue reading

Pirates of the Caribbean Gets a Facelift

Growing up, one of my favorite rides at the Walt Disney World Resort was Pirates of the Caribbean. A seemingly simple boat ride that begins with random scenery of skeleton pirates and abandoned treasure, the boat plunges down a waterfall and back in time, into the days of pirate ships and buried treasure. Years ago, Disney made what many fans consider to be a huge mistake. They made the ride “politically correct”. Once you plunged back in time and to an island in the Caribbean that was being ravaged by pirates, you saw a woman being chased by a pirate … Continue reading
