Can You Afford a Winter Getaway?

You certainly can if you hit the road in the next three weeks. From popular newspapers to morning news shows, travel experts are popping up just about everywhere today hammering home the latest and greatest industry catchphrase:  “dead zone.” A travel “dead zone” is defined as the weekend after Thanksgiving until roughly the week prior to Christmas.  It’s a time when most people have little incentive to travel far from home.  Consequently, hotels, rental car companies, cruise operators and commercial airlines offer a slew of travel bargains in order to remain profitable between the two busiest holidays of the season. … Continue reading

Paris Hilton’s Cocaine Bust

It’s is almost as if Lindsay Lohan tagged Paris Hilton on her way out of rehab. These two seem to share the limelight for their notorious behavior and this week, it is Paris’ turn to be in the news. Hilton was arrested last night in Las Vegas. The officers pulled over the vehicle in which Paris was riding as it sat in front of the Wynn Hotel. It is assumed Hilton was in front of the hotel because her boyfriend Cy Waits runs a nightclub there. Police expected to find marijuana in the vehicle because smoke was coming out the … Continue reading

Destinations for Daring Travelers

You don’t have to be daring to tour New York City’s Museum of Modern Art, unless you are a parent with a young child, who decides to visit the legendary art institute during a nude exhibition. Ironically, it’s not the naked models you have to worry about. Rather, it’s the perverted patrons, who are touching the nude performers that you’ll want to shield your kids’ eyes from. According to museum officials, more than a dozen visitors have been escorted out of the gallery after pushing, prodding, and poking nude performers. The performers are part of Marina Abramovic’s new exhibition highlighting … Continue reading

With his personal life in turmoil, Tiger Woods has announced he plans to take an “indefinite break” from golf. Tiger has been mostly silent since his early morning car crash, but finally admitted to infidelity in a statement on his web site. He said, in part “I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children.” At first, Tiger, who refused to speak with the police about the wreck, only admitted to vague “transgressions.” But, as more and more alleged mistresses came forth to the … Continue reading

Alternative Living in Las Vegas

The other day I wrote about Daniel Suelo, who gave up money and now lives in a cave, surviving off what he can get without buying it. The other day, I read another article that reminded me that, for green reasons or not, many people are turning to alternative ways of living. Steven and Kathryn may look like a typical Las Vegas couple, but there is one big difference – they live in the flood tunnels of the city. If you have ever been to the city, you can imagine the flood tunnels aren’t used much because it is dry … Continue reading

Joaquin Phoenix.. . .Rapper?

Recently, Academy Award nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix kissed acting goodbye, saying he was leaving to pursue a career in music. Or, did he? When I first read that Joaquin was not going to act anymore, I was saddened. I’ve loved his performance in many movies, but knowing a little about his family background, I wasn’t surprised. In case you didn’t know, Joaquin and his siblings (River, Rain, Liberty, and Summer) were brought up in a less than traditional atmosphere. Their parents, John and Arlyn, were members of the religion Children of God. The Phoenix children spent most of their childhood … Continue reading

O.J. Simpson’s Headed to the Big House

And, by “Big House,” I don’t mean some luxury mansion is Los Angeles or Miami. After years of questionable behavior, O.J. Simpson has finally been brought down by the law and he has landed really hard. (This image is a work of a U.S. military or Department of Defense employee, taken or made during the course of an employee’s official duties. As a work of the U.S. federal government, the image is in the public domain.) In case you haven’t heard about his latest fiasco, O.J. was on trial for confronting memorabilia sellers Bruce Fromong and Al Beardsley in Las … Continue reading

Cher: The Original Diva – Part 2

When I last left off in my Cher blog, it was the end of the 70s. She was twice divorced and her record career had stalled. So, what do you do when you aren’t selling records? You reinvent yourself as an actress. At the age of 36 (often considered “old” in Hollywood), Cher starred in the Broadway production of Com Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. She received critical praise and later starred in the film version. She appeared in Silkwood as unglamorous lesbian – showing us a completely different side of Cher. For the role, … Continue reading
