Could There Be a Vaccine for Breast Cancer?

Could there really be a vaccine for breast cancer in the near future? I have been hearing about this story quite a bit in the news. After successfully testing mice with a vaccine, there is great hope that breast cancer could be prevented in women. Now that the mice have been tested it’s time to move onto human clinical tests. It’s believed that possibly next year they will be ready to begin testing on women. Now I do have to admit that I am always apprehensive about new vaccinations. The first thing that comes to my mind is wondering what … Continue reading

Emotional Support Can Improve Odds for Breast Cancer Patients

Breast cancer is one of the leading types of cancer in the United States. If you or someone you know has battled with breast cancer, you understand the need for support and encouragement. Men Don’t Nag

One of the interesting things here in the Marriage Blog is that Dale and I often find ourselves thinking about the same things. I was just about to write a post about nagging, when Dale beat me to it! This is a good thing, because it really helped me to think about the issue a little more. Dale made some great points about nagging. Many studies have shown that nagging doesn’t work. The person being nagged tends to tune it out, and the person nagging doesn’t really believe that things will change, even if she can’t stop nagging. Yes, notice … Continue reading

The new research was conducted by the National Cancer Institute and gives post-menopausal women hope for healthier years ahead. The study followed more than 32,000 women who were enrolled in a Breast Cancer Detection Demonstration. Each woman provided answers to a questionnaire asking about their physical activity (including everyday tasks like housework, work related activity and leisure activity) over the course of a year. Researchers then performed statistical tests to estimate the relative risk of post-menopausal breast cancer linked to physical … Continue reading

Are Men Really the Weaker Sex?

I’ve been thinking a bit since reading Courtney’s blog about men being the weaker sex and trying to relate it to the men I am or have been closest too – my husband, son, son-in-law and my father. In each case I can’t see that these guys fit that pattern. As on example, last Saturday when I was launching GROW – UNDER THE SOUTHERN CROSS, an anthology of poems and stories for children and young teenagers, I had nothing but support from the men in my life. Mick spent a great deal of time organizing and printing fliers to send … Continue reading

Men: The Weaker Sex?

Before I begin, I just want to say that, even though the title might suggest otherwise, this article isn’t intended to be a slam against men. Rather, it’s just some reflections on things I’ve seen regarding boyfiends and husbands over the past 10 years during my stint as a stay-at-home wife. Not that I’ve had all sorts of relationships with other men. But I’ve had lots and lots of talks with my women friends. It was when I was living in Jacksonville that I noticed a pattern forming where our husbands were concerned. And ever since I noticed it, I … Continue reading

On Monday, Yahoo Inc. announced that it launched a new website geared for women. The new website, called, Shine, will cover such topics as parenting, love, relationships, healthy living, home life, sex, money and career, entertainment, food, fashion, beauty and even astrology.
