All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Insurance

Spring is just around the corner and last week I wrote a Blog about Personal Watercraft, or small boats. The other thing families seem to be attracted to adding as a toy are All Terrain Vehicle’s otherwise known as an ATV. Useful, fun and wonderful way to spend a weekend ATV’s are loved by families, ranchers, hunters, beach safety, and trail riders all over the country. In some cases, a Homeowner Policy might offer some coverage for an ATV that is used only on your own private property. But, most Homeowner policies will not cover if it’s used off your … Continue reading

Four More Parental Liable Issues

Negligent Supervision is a legal theory where a minor child’s parents are held liable for their child’s negligent acts when parent knows or has a reason to know that it’s necessary to control the child and the parent fails to take actions to do so. Anyone with the custody and control of a child may be held liable including grandparents, guardians, foster parents or other adults with custody and control of a child. In most cases there isn’t a dollar limit for negligent supervision liability claims. In some situations an Insurance Umbrella or Homeowners insurance policy might offer some protection … Continue reading

Figuring Out the Assets!

In the last Blog I wrote about the fact that It’s Time for My Personal Insurance Review and Updates. One of the most important steps to take when reviewing your personal insurance coverage it to determine your overall personal assets. I have always found Tax time to be one of the great times of the year to gather the information together and start determining our families Net Worth. It seems to older we get–the more we collect and the more we need to protect. I tend to separate my assets into several categories: Real Property that is paid off and … Continue reading

Kidnapping Insurance: Chubb Masterpiece Family Protection

Shawn Hornbeck was kidnapped on October 6, 2002 and held hostage until January 12, 2007 when he was found with another boy who went missing a few days before they were found together. By now we have all heard the story and for once the ending is as good as it possibly could have been for a child who was kidnapped at the age of 11 and held for over four years. Shawn’s mother and step-father never lost hope and virtually invested every asset they had during their four-year ordeal. This story is repeated far too often in the United … Continue reading

House Fire Hero’s Cause Cancellation of Homeowner Insurance

Last October our local news in ran a story about a woman saved by her two Pit Bull Dogs from a house fire. Apparently she didn’t have working smoke detectors, and her dogs were responsible for saving her life when they alerted her and woke her up. I remember making a comment to my husband, that without the working smoke detectors, and owning the two Pit Bulls it was likely the insurance company for the home would cancel the insurance policy. Well, today I heard on the news the woman has received the notice and her Nationwide Homeowner Insurance policy … Continue reading
