Hannah Montana The Movie

I recently had the opportunity to take my seven-year-old daughter to see Hannah Montana. To be honest I was not looking forward to the experience, since I do not generally enjoy the television show. However I was pleasantly surprised to find that I did enjoy the movie. The comedy worked well against the overall story. In the movie Miley is becoming too focused on being Hannah. The stardom is going to her head and she gets in a fight with Tyra at a store. She also shows up at her best friend’s Lily’s sixteenth birthday party as Hannah and completely … Continue reading

13 Going on 30 (2004)

When I first saw the ads for “13 Going on 30,” I thought, “Oh, it’s just a girl version of ‘Big.’” You can read my concerns about “Big” here, but to summarize, I felt that the boy had been put into situations he couldn’t possibly have handled well and come out unscathed, including a sexual relationship. How do you go back to being a child after having experienced adult physical relationships? So as I sat down to watch “13 Going on 30,” I was understandably concerned. I’m so delighted to say, though, that I was unnecessarily worried. Jenna Rink is … Continue reading

Hoodwinked: The Retelling of a Classic

People who are ready to compare the animation of this film to films such as “Toy Story” and “Shrek” might be disappointed. However, beneath the somewhat lackluster artistic effort lies a brave attempt to put a new spin on a very old tale. Hoodwinked follows the age old tale of “Little Red Riding Hood” and we all know what happened there, right? The film plays on the fact that the characters within the story just really can’t agree on how the whole shebang went down and how exactly Granny’s recipe was stolen, which happens to be the inciting incident for … Continue reading
