Getting Out the “Stinkies”

A friend of mine goes through at least three lunch bags a year for her son. each time, the reusable lunch bag gets a bad case of the stinkies. Not matter how she washed it, she can’t seem to remove the odor. She has even tried using the old established products, such as baking soda solutions and bleach, but nothing works. I’m so glad that she confessed that it is just easier for her to throw a perfectly good lunch bag out, because I have the perfect solution for her, and she already has the product in her home. She’ll … Continue reading

Quick Fixes for Stubborn Smells

We know that a box or a cup of baking soda in the fridge will help curb odors. It’s a simple way to keep the fridge and the foods inside it fresher. It also works in the freezer. If you freeze something with a strong scent, that scent may well overpower ice cream, ice cubes, or anything else in the freezer. Baking soda can help with that. Home and Garden Question: Washing Machine Odor

I recently received the following question: Does your washer ever have an odor? Mine does. The smell isn’t real strong but it is unpleasant and like musty. What can I do to to get rid of it and keep it from smelling? Any ideas? The good news is that this problem is usually easy to resolve. Another thing to consider is that washing machines do get dirty. … Continue reading

How to Handle Flying with Smelly Seatmates

Admit it. It’s happened to me and I’m sure that at one time or another it’s happened to you too. You are crammed like a sardine on an overbooked flight, your seatmate has commandeered the armrest and your “15-minute delay” is going into its second hour. Then, it hits you. (No, not the fact that you forgot to pack your toothbrush.) A smell so strong it makes the hairs on the back of your head stand straight up. You may think there is no solution to this “odor problem”, but you do have recourse — if you time it right. … Continue reading

Favorite Scents for the Home

Do you prefer the crisp scent of fresh linen or the intoxicating fragrance of lavender? Maybe you like berry, rain, potpourri, or vanilla. No matter which fragrance you prefer you can find plenty of choices when it comes to home air fresheners. In most spaces, I prefer clean, crisp, “soap and water” scents to the fruit and floral selections, although I do like some versions of citrus. Citrus scents work great in the kitchen, and they give me a little pick-me-up. To me, the scent of citrus makes it feel like summer any time of year. Maybe it reminds me … Continue reading
