Is He the Man of Your Dreams?

If you were asked to describe your idea of a perfect man, would you be describing your husband? I think that this question all depends on the day and time that it is asked! Of course we all have those moments when we feel that our spouses are less than perfect. However, in general, are you satisfied with what you have or are there a few things that you would change if you had the chance? I have noticed at some of my girlfriend get togethers there are some women who continuously complain about their husbands. I cannot say that … Continue reading

Rule Number 1: No Such Thing as a Perfect Marriage

Since I decided my focus for 2008 would be resolving to make the best of marriage, I have to start somewhere. Setting rules seems like a logical place. Perhaps the most important, fundamental rule is realizing perfection is a myth. Nobody, and No Marriage, Is Perfect I don’t believe in such a thing as the perfect marriage. Everyone has flaws, therefore every marriage will have flaws. That’s not to say you can’t enjoy an incredible marriage though. That’s always something you can strive for. As long as you do the following: (a) Accept It, Flaws are Inevitable If you accept … Continue reading

Being Perfect

In Third Nephi, chapter twelve, we read: 47. Old things are done away, and all things have become new. 48. Therefore I would that ye should be perfect, even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect. Wow. That’s quite the charge. How on earth are we supposed to be perfect? We know we can’t – we’re human. We’re mortal. It’s impossible for us to be perfect, and yet here we are, being commanded to be perfect. It’s almost more than we can handle. I’d like to call your attention to the first verse mentioned. Old things … Continue reading

Showing Our Kids Our Vulnerable Side

When our kids are young most of the time they think we can do no wrong. They don’t consider that we might make a mistake or that we might have fears. I was talking with Tyler’s father yesterday and he heard me remark that I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. I never imagined that rebuilding would be such a vast endeavor. As we end our second day in New Orleans, I feel like I have not accomplished much of anything. For instance, on yesterday I waited over two hours for someone to come to my house and measure for kitchen … Continue reading

Gospel Doctrine: An Overview of the Sermon on the Mount

This week, we’re reviewing the first part of the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5. I’m actually going to do an overview of the lesson today, as I have been asked to substitute teach for the class on Sunday. So for today, you get a generalized summary, which we’ll flesh out as the week progresses. First, I would like to take a look at the importance of the Sermon. It is repeated in part in Luke, although not identical. However, the importance is illustrated by the fact that the Savior repeated almost an identical sermon to the Nephites after He … Continue reading

Christians Aren’t Perfect

I don’t recall meeting anyone who has actually claimed to be perfect, but I have seen those who have self-righteous attitudes. As much as it should be our goal to be more like Christ and perfect in heart and actions, as long as we live in a sinful world, there will be obstacles. Sadly sometimes the obstacles in life are other Christians who may mean well, but give less than wise council. Those who are younger or weaker in faith who put their trust in other believers might find some strength and comfort for a while, but eventually they will … Continue reading

Have You Seen This Woman?

Maybe you’ve had the pleasure of meeting this woman. First of all, she is beautiful. Her hair is always fixed, her makeup is always perfect and her clothes are always pressed. Her home is meticulous. Every closet is organized and there is not a single dust bunny to be found, not even under the couch. She cooks a delicious dinner every night, including a decadent dessert. (And yet her figure is amazing!) She drives the car pool, she’s president of the PTA, she volunteers at the library, she’s a Sunday school teacher and a Girl Scout leader. She’s always calm, … Continue reading
