Buying Gifts for In-Laws

When it comes to buying gifts for in-laws, it invariably gets left to the woman to do the gift buying. This can be fine if she has a good relationship with them and knows what they like. If she does not, it can be disastrous. There is nothing harder that trying to buy a gift for someone when you don’t know what they like. Often you don’t know what they like, so you wander around the shops. But it’s near to impossible to know what to buy if you haven’t got a clue what you’re looking for. You can spend … Continue reading

Does Your Toddler Stink?

I’m not referring to the noxious fumes that emanate from a full diaper. Rather, how many of you have tots that smell like decaying food or rancid milk? I would suspect that if you bathe your child regularly, then he probably doesn’t attract flies on a daily basis. That said I wonder how well a new product dubbed Love, Chic Baby, is going to go over with parents with young children? Love, Chic Baby is cologne and perfume for babies and toddlers. Yes, just in case your sweetie doesn’t smell up to snuff, then you can douse her with artificial … Continue reading

A Sweet Fragrance

The sense of smell is the most evocative of the sense in regard to memory. It is one I often use as a trigger of memories in creative writing workshops. More importantly though, whenever I go to teach a Sunday school or SRE – special religious education class I always make sure I put on a nice perfume, usually Dewberry or Ananya. Why do this when teaching? Because I want everything about children learning about Jesus to be a pleasurable experience. I’ve had more than one child tell me ‘you smell nice.’ It’s only a little thing but I consider … Continue reading

Scents and Sensuality

Do you wear perfume? (Or, if you’re a man, cologne?) Did your husband pick it for you? (Or your wife? If that applies.) If you picked it yourself, did you pick a scent you hoped your significant other would find alluring? Or did you simply pick something you found appealing? I don’t remember how long ago it was, but once upon a time I saw a report on a TV show about scent preferences. It could have been months, it could have been years. Most things are a blur these days. However, it was about a study of perfumes and … Continue reading

Fashion Files: Celebrity Designers Strike Again

In a previous blog I ranted about the growing number of celebrities who are cashing in by having their names and faces connected to random beauty products and fashion items. For example, Patrick Dempsey has his own scent with Avon, while Spider-Man star James Franco recently paired with Gucci as the face of their new men’s fragrance. Now, it appears country music star Tim McGraw is jumping on the smell-good bandwagon too by teaming up with Coty to launch his first-ever fragrance this summer. According to company spokespeople, McGraw by Tim McGraw will be a “down-to-earth, woodsy scent with touches … Continue reading

Timing Is Everything

Paris Hilton’s newest piece of arm candy is causing quite a stir among celebrity watchers and illustrates what can happen if you are at the right place at the right time. According to the New York Post, 22-year-old Alex Vaggo is going places… mainly in the passenger seat of Hilton’s car. The good-looking Swedish tourist was standing on the street near the USA Hostel in Hollywood when he was introduced to the hotel heiress. A source tells the newspaper the former jailbird immediately took a liking to him. And, now, the source says, Vaggo is living much better. (Can you … Continue reading

Save Money by Creating a Custom Perfume

I’ll never forget the day that I’d attended an out of town training for my business. A woman sat next to me. She was my supervisor’s supervisor – a real “big-wig” in the company. Frankly, I was pretty excited that I would have the chance to get to know her better. Maybe she would remember me when there was an opportunity for a promotion. I said, “hello” and instantly gagged. Her perfume almost knocked me over. My eyes started to water. My nose started to run. I could barely breathe. During the meeting, she kept trying to chit-chat with me. … Continue reading

How to Keep Pup Smelling Fresh After the Bath

In How to Bathe a Dog That Hates Baths, I shared the ways I go about cleaning my anti-bath taking dog, Murphy. Now I’m going to share some ways that I’ve found to keep him smelling fresh afterwards. No Rolling in Stinky Stuff! Okay, this is more tongue-in-cheek than serious. Obviously, once clean who isn’t a little more vigilant about making sure pup doesn’t go rolling amuck once more? (Or rolling in muck, as the case may be.) Deodorants They’re not just for people anymore! Actually, I didn’t even know they made them for pets until a kennel owner shared … Continue reading
