Amazon Launches New Pet Website

Amazon.com recently premiered a new online pet store, wag.com. Don’t go looking for Amazon shipping fulfillment or for your prime membership to apply, however; wag.com is technically part of a subsidiary Amazon bought back in 2006, and there’s no hint of Wag’s corporate owner anywhere on the site. Wag.com is a well-organized, colorful site divided into multiple sections based on the type of pet for which you want to shop. These range from dogs, cats, and small (mammal) pets to fish, birds, and reptiles. Once under a species section shoppers can then conduct their business by choosing to browse under … Continue reading

Q&A with PetPop.com

Last week I wrote Comparing Online Pet Sites: Dogster and Catster vs. PetPop.com. I had deduced that both sites were fairly similar but each also had their own distinct flair. Well, this week I have the honor of presenting to you an interview I conducted with Anthony Ngo, a Service Representative for PetPop.com. I asked him directly what makes PetPop.com different and he certainly provided wonderful insight on that. So without further ado, I present to you the interview. Courtney Mroch: When did PetPop.com launch? Anthony Ngo: PetPop.com launched in June of 2006. CM: How many members do you have … Continue reading

Comparing Online Pet Sites: Dogster and Catster vs. PetPop.com

Move over Dogster and Catster, there’s a new pet website in town: PetPop.com. What’s the difference between Dogster and Catster and PetPop.com? Not much in some respects. They both allow you to create a website of sorts for your pets where you can post pictures and video. You can join online communities and make friends, and both have contests you can enter. And they both offer pet-related content about products and services. (PetPop’s aren’t all up yet, though. Some parts of the site are still works in progress.) And that’s where they differ a little. The “’Ster” family of websites … Continue reading

Sites You Might Not Normally Think to Visit for Pet Info: The Weather Channel

When I was gathering sites together for places that let you post pet photos, one I stumbled across was not one that would have first come to mind: The Weather Channel/Weather.com. Under their Around the Home tab they have a Pets section. What a neat resource! In addition to sharing your cute pet pics, you can find a lot of helpful info. Starting with the main feature, their Personal Pet Cast. You select what kind of pet you have (dog or cat), their size, hair length, and age, then you type in your zip code, your pet’s name, and hit … Continue reading

Pet Websites: Purina ONE 30 Day Challenge

Considering a new brand of food for your dog or cat? Purina ONE offers the 30 Day Challenge to encourage owners to switch from their current food to Purina ONE. Their claim is that after thirty days of eating Purina ONE, a pet will have a better appetite, healthier appearance, better digestive health, and a higher energy level. Before you start the Purina ONE 30 Day Challenge, you need to make a gradual transition from your current food to Purina ONE. Switching foods abruptly can give your dog or cat a serious upset stomach! Once your pet is eating only … Continue reading

Pet Website: Crafters for Critters

A fellow dog lover pointed me towards Crafters for Critters, a website that supports independent craft businesses and collects money for animal rescue organizations. The site takes donations from crafters/designers/artists and offers them for sale. The proceeds from the site are donated to animal rescue groups. The only money the site keeps for itself is for shipping costs, PayPal fees, and the occasional promotional materials or advertising. Everything else goes to the animals. Crafters for Critters is run in rounds. A round is a period of four months where all proceeds from the site are divided between three animal charities. … Continue reading

Aimee’s Favorite Pet Sites

Maybe I’m just a big softie… but I could look at pictures of dogs and cats and other small furries ALL DAY LONG. When I’m cranky at work and need a mental health break, I click over to one of my favorite sites and indulge in some cyber-fuzz therapy. (My dream job will be one where I can bring the mutts with me!) Dogster.com/Catster.com These sites are a lot like a personal journal for your pets. You can fill out a little bio, upload a bunch of cute pictures, and even write a diary! Viewers can rate pages on a … Continue reading
