Cat Survives in Wall for Seven Weeks

I saw the headline on MSN last night and heard the story on the radio this morning: a cat survived inside the bathroom walls for seven weeks. Here’s how it happened: workers were replacing pipes in an apartment building in Stadthagen, Germany. Little black cat Bonny was last seen wandering around a neighbor’s apartment. Bonny’s owner believes that the cat snuck in underneath the bathtub and was sealed in. Owner Monika Hoppert eventually heard the little cat’s meowing from behind the tiles. At first, the woman couldn’t believe it. But eventually she realized it was indeed her missing Bonny — … Continue reading

Bling For Sebastian

A one year old black Persian cat from Indiana is sporting some interesting choppers: Sebastian the cat has gold crowns on his two bottom canine teeth! Though the kitty looks more like a movie villain’s pet than a mild mannered Persian these days, the gold crowns really do serve a purpose beyond the cosmetic. Sebastian’s owner — Doctor David Steele — is a dentist who feared the unique fangs would become a problem. He decided that the gold crowns … Continue reading

Rhode Island Signs Spay/Neuter Law

Last month, Rhode Island became the first state in the nation to require cat owners to spay or neuter their pets (unless they plan to breed the cats and purchase a breeder’s license). Rhode Island Governor Don Carcieri hopes the move for mandatory spaying and neutering will help reduce the number of cats that are in shelters throughout the state — who often end up being euthanized. If the number of cats in shelters is reduced, that will help shelters save money by cutting down on housing and feeding costs. In 2004, between private shelters and municipal shelters in Rhode … Continue reading

Kitten Detective Nabs Fake Vet

I’m not making this up, though the headline makes it sound like a joke. Detective Fred, an eight month old stray cat from Brooklyn, NY posed as a patient to help catch a young man who had been posing as a vet to scam pet lovers. The first big break in the case of the shady non-vet came from Boston Terrier Burt Reid and his family, who contacted authorities after Burt managed to survive a botched abdominal operation. Their first clue, father Raymond Reid said, was that their vet only made house calls, and took poor Burt to an undisclosed … Continue reading
