Layout Challenge – Seeing Double

Challenges can sometimes get us to create layouts and work on memories that we might not have done otherwise. It is my favorite part about doing challenges; the ability to think outside the box and get some scrapbooking done at the same time. This week’s challenge is a ‘Seeing Double’ theme. It isn’t so much about a certain product or a certain type of layout or theme. It’s more about interpreting the theme ‘seeing double’ or something in two’s. Remember this could be photographs you have of two objects or two people. It could be embellishments you decide to use. … Continue reading

Are You Sharing Your Pictures?

And I’m not talking about passing your camera around so friends can view your favorite pics on your 2-inch LCD screen. When was the last time you actually took the time to print your most cherished shots or at the very least email them to family members? Printing pictures has become as easy as sitting your camera on top of a printer and pressing a button. It’s a simple task, but you might be surprised by the number of shutterbugs who allow their shots to sit in their cameras for months on end. With summer fast approaching and snap happy … Continue reading

Choosing a Photo Retreat

From Bali to Monte Carlo, Nice to Honolulu some of the world’s most exotic cities are serving as the inspiration for amazing photo retreats. Have you ever participated in a photo retreat? Those who have often remark that they help nurture creativity, expose them to extraordinary scenes and allow them to experiment with new compositions. Whenever I fly home to visit my parents in Hawaii I always promise myself that I am going to make time to participate in a local photo retreat. I’ve done the research on one in particular located on the Big Island of Hawaii. Hawaii Photo … Continue reading

Digital Frames Go Wireless

Have you joined the millions of other photo fans who have invested in a digital photo frame? As I mentioned in my previous blog they are one of the hottest items you can give mom for Mother’s Day. And unlike in years past, these days you can get digital photo frames in a variety of sizes, colors, styles, and at varying price points. The evolution of digital photo frames includes the introduction of touch screens, iPod docking stations and WiFi integration, all of which I discussed in previous blogs. In this post I am focusing on a new option in … Continue reading

Photo Add Ons

The title might seem deceiving… this post does not discuss embellishments that you can add on to your photos; rather I wanted to provide additional information on topics I blogged about in previous articles. Here’s more info on: PHOTO SORTING When I mentioned that I sort photos chronologically and separate them per event or occasion I failed to mention that I flag some with Post It notes. Doing so reminds me that a certain picture is frame worthy or scrapbook worthy. However, I should note that you should never adhere Post It notes to the front of your pictures. Always … Continue reading

Creating a Photo Mosaic

I’ve been intrigued by photo mosaics ever since I saw a poster-sized picture of Snoopy hanging in a St. Paul bookstore and realized it was actually an arrangement of thousands of tiny tile photos. Ever since then I have wanted to create a photo mosaic of my own. That was more than five years ago and only now have I gotten around to making my dream a reality. At first I tried to make a photo mosaic on my own. There are hundreds of applications that allow you to do so on your own for free on Macs or PCs. … Continue reading

SNAP! Making Mother’s Day Memories

If you are a mom and the official family photographer then getting a photo gift of your children for Mother’s Day is probably not in your future. Unless it’s a framed shot you took yourself. I’ve had a few of those over the years. Don’t get me wrong. I am very appreciative of the thought that went into the gifts. For example, a couple of years ago my mom got me a beautiful sterling silver frame for Mother’s Day. Naturally, she didn’t want to present me with an empty frame (or worse, leave the sepia shot of a random mother … Continue reading

Choosing an Underwater Camera

In my last blog I revealed that my new goal for 2008 is to experiment with underwater photography. Currently, I do not own an underwater camera so I have been doing research on what type of equipment I will need and how much it will cost me. It didn’t take me long to realize that underwater photography is far from a cheap hobby, though the results seem to make the time, effort and money worth it. If you too are interested in taking beautiful pictures under the sea (or in the deep end of the pool) you are going to … Continue reading
