American Lung Association Releases the State of the Air Report

The American Lung Association (ALA) released its “State of the Air” report yesterday, which looks at the ozone and particle pollution levels across the U.S. for 2006, 2007 and 2008. As with most reports, there is good news and bad news. The year-round, annual particle pollution levels showed improvement. Earth Day 2010

This April 22 will be the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Earth Day began in 1970 when Wisconsin senator Gaylord Nelson proposed an environmental protest to “to shake up the political establishment and force this issue onto the national agenda.” Of course, back in 1970, air pollution was worse that it is now and Americans were sucking up gas at an alarming rate, so perhaps a protest was more in order.
