Balancing the Power in a Single Parent Family

Power struggles are an ongoing reality in all families—struggles between parents and children, struggles between siblings, and in two-parent homes, struggles between those two parents. In a single parent family, there might be times when it seems like we have less to wrestle with since there is clearly one parent and possibly less relationships to negotiate, but it can also be a bigger struggle since we have other houses, step parents, and some of us single parents are out-numbered by our offspring! Power is constantly shifting, but we can make an effort to put more balance into our households. Having … Continue reading

Clean, But For How Long?

Our puppy loves water. She likes nothing better than to be put in the laundry tub and bathed, unlike our other dog that runs a mile at the mere mention of the word ‘bath.’ She happily gets soaped up, rubbed and rinsed. Since she is low to the ground and is an outdoor some of the time and loves investigating everything, the bathwater ends up an interesting color. Dried and brushed, she looks adorable with her ginger fur tinged with black on ears and around her mouth and on her tail. Unfortunately she doesn’t stay clean long. Too soon she … Continue reading

Super Heroes

I decided to take my oldest son out the other day for a mommy and son dinner and shopping date. My son is 5 years old going on 15 by the way. I thought it a good opportunity while we were in the car listening to his latest favorite song, “Love is a Verb” by DC Talk, to share with him how awesome God is. Power of a Woman Part 3: R-E-S-P-E-C-T

I confess that when I first got married, I was a real brat. Most of the time I was sweet, but buddy, when riled, I came out with both fists flying. I cringe as I think back at the things I said to my husband. If I heard a young bride talking to her husband like that today, I’d have to pull her aside and have a little chat with her. The worst part about it was my double standard. If my husband said something that I felt was out of line, I was in his face telling him how … Continue reading

Power of a Woman

I have been thinking recently about the tremendous influence wives have in their husbands lives. Ladies, a wife can make a man’s life wonderful, or she can make it miserable. Have you read the story of Job? This poor guy was going through hell on earth. All of his children were killed, his riches were gone and he broke out in painful boils. All he had left was his wife. You might be thinking, “ Lucky he still had her.” I’m not so sure. She may have been part of the misery. She told her husband to, “Curse God and … Continue reading
