Don’t Put It Off

Have you ever felt that urge to pray for someone? You don’t know why but you feel prompted to pray. Can I urge you not to ignore it? The Lord God often puts it on a person’s mind to pray for someone without knowing all the details. It is enough that God knows. This week a woman in our church testified how she had felt led to pray for those in our congregation. She didn’t know why but she was obedient. Unbeknown to her there had been a serious accident. A man from our congregation had found his son lying … Continue reading

How To Handle Disagreements – Part 2

So, you’re finding yourself at odds with someone in your church, family or neighborhood. What can you do about it? Someone once said that ‘the faults we notice most in others are those we have ourselves.’ So before we start criticizing and trying to sort out the other person and their thinking and attitudes, it’s a good idea to look at our own lives and ask the Lord to show us what needs to be changed there. Too often we are reluctant to do that. But that’s what growing as a Christian is all about, changing to become more like … Continue reading

Why Should You Pray?

Many blessings come from being a Christian. One of the richest and most rewarding blessings is being able to approach our God at any time of day or night in prayer. Not only can we come to God and lay our burdens before Him, but the Bible says that He wants us to pray to Him. I Peter 5:7 states that we are supposed to “cast” all of our cares on Him because He cares for us. If we have the weight of a difficult child, a turbulent friendship or even a disagreement with our spouse, God wants us to … Continue reading

A Child’s Prayer Blooper

Wednesday night at our church is a time of Bible study and prayer. After we spend about twenty minutes in Bible study, the service is opened up to the congregation. People who have needs for prayer will share them with the rest of the church during this time. If someone has a need, but does not want to specify the nature of it, they will say only that they have an “unspoken” prayer request. After we get all of the prayer requests, we pray together either as a church, as families, or with prayer partners. On one such evening my … Continue reading

Resolutions

As the New Year approaches many people will undoubtedly be making resolutions about things they want to change in their lives. From losing weight, spending more time with family, or getting out of debt people use the New Year as a fresh start in their lives. While each of the resolutions I mentioned above are good, I also want to encourage you to make some “spiritual” resolutions. Below I have listed just a few resolutions to help strengthen one’s walk with God. Pray, pray, pray. Prayer is an important part of a Christian’s life. Resolve to pray more often to … Continue reading

The Family that Prays Together Stays Together

By just reading my title I know it appears to sum up a whole message. There is so much depth in this statement than what we might see. The importance of this message goes beyond the nice thought of a family coming together before the Lord. When my husband and I first started praying together at night, we’d been married about a year. I was a bit nervous about asking him to pray for our night and our current situations. I knew he didn’t grow up praying with anyone and might feel uncomfortable. To be honest, it was a bit … Continue reading

Devotions of Prayer

Like many of the other topics I have written about in my “Devotions” series, doing a study over prayer is hardly something that can be done completely in one short setting. The Bible has a lot to say about prayer: how to pray, what to pray for, and examples of prayer. An in-depth study on prayer would likely take several hours, if not more, of intense look at the Bible and what it has to say about prayer. However, by saying that I do not intend to discourage you, but rather prepare you for what is available on the topic … Continue reading

Trials and Faith: Why is This Happening?

In preparing to wrap up my series of Trials and Faith, I receive and email from a long time best-friend. It was a heartfelt prayer request for her friend’s family. This urgent request inspired me to write this blog and release it now rather than later. The prayer request was regarding a little boy who is now 3 who’d had brain cancer. He’d gone through at least radiation treatment, only to find out recently, his cancer returned. It was told to me that he will not be able to have any further radiation treatment and the type of cancer he … Continue reading

What if Your Home was in a War Zone?

My thoughts and prayers go out to every person trying to survive in a war torn country. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but the turmoil throughout the world today is so intense that hearing about each conflict, each outbreak of violence, is heartbreaking. I have very strong opinions about politics, foreign policy, the UN, and the various conflicts, but my biggest concern is for the people caught up in all of it. It breaks my heart to watch news footage and observe all the human suffering. People are people no matter where they live, no matter … Continue reading
