Warren Boyd – The Real Cleaner

Have you seen the new A&E show “The Cleaner?” It features Benjamin Bratt as a former addict who now uses extreme measures to help other addicts get clean. If you’ve seen the show, you may not know that Benjamin’s character, William Banks, is based on a real person. Warren Boyd was raised in sunny Santa Rosa, California, but by the age of 32, he had seen his share of trouble. He had nine DUI convictions and had already spent five years in prison. Addicted to both alcohol and cocaine, Boyd had been in and out of 26 rehab programs without … Continue reading

Throwing His Hat into the Britney Ring…Ladies and Gentlemen, Mel Gibson

That is right! Mel “I am just now recovering myself from a brush with celebrity infamy” Gibson is now playing one of his strangest roles ever – as friend to Britney Spears. What could Mad Mel and the Pop Tart have in common? I don’t know but when they were spotted having dinner together this past weekend, sources tell People magazine that this is not the first time they have met. The source says, “Mel and his wife Robin clearly saw a woman in crisis and wanted to extend themselves in any way possible.” Lord knows Robin has had enough … Continue reading

Sean Young Enters Rehab

With much of young Hollywood using rehab like a revolving door, I was a bit surprised today to hear that actress Sean Young has entered rehab for alcohol abuse. Sean was removed from the Directors Guild of America award show Saturday after she heckled the director of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Julian Schnabel. While Julian was giving his speech, he began to falter, pausing, and running his hand through his hair. Sean hollered out “Get on with it!” Julian had a great rebound though, asking “Who said that to me?” Once he saw it was Sean, he replied … Continue reading

Catching Up With Kiefer and Lindsay

I blogged not too long ago about “24” star Kiefer Sutherland and his most recently DUI. I had to preface that with “most recent” because he has had quite a few. Live and learn Kieifer, live and learn! Anyhow, today he was sentenced to 48 days in the Glendale jail after pleading no contest to drunk driving on September 25. His blood alcohol level was above the .08 legal limit allowed in California. Kiefer must begin serving his time before March 30, 2008. Part of the reason he got jail time was that he was still on probation for a … Continue reading

Amy Winehouse…Britain’s Britney?

Amy Winehouse is a very talented songstress, but lately, just like Britney Spears, her private life has begun to overshadow her talent. Her first album was nominated for the Mercury Prize, the music award for Best Album in the United Kingdom. Her second album Back to Black has sold almost a million and a half copies. Yet, with all that success, her personal life seems to be a mess. It has long been suspected that she and husband Blake Fielder-Civil have a problem with drugs. Winehouse herself sang a song that contained the lyrics “They’re tryin to make me go … Continue reading

Porter’s Ailing, John’s Left Rehab, and McGinley to be a Dad Again

County legend Porter Wagoner has been hospitalized in serious condition for an undisclosed illness. His publicist, Darlene Bieber, said the 80-year-old Wagoner is asking for prayers from friends and fans. The country star had marked his 50th anniversary with the Grand Ole Opry in May of this year. He was previously hospitalized in July 2006 with a stomach aneurism. Porter is probably best known for his trademark rhinestone suits and for helping a then unknown Dolly Parton get her career started in 1967. Porter saw a recent upsurge in his career when he signed with ANTI-records and was the opening … Continue reading

Celebrity Rehab – Who’s In and Who’s Out

In case you have not heard the news, Lindsay Lohan left the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center this week. That is right – after almost two months, Lindsay is out of rehab. He father helped her pack up to leave. Formerly estranged from his daughter, Michael, who has had his own addiction problems, said he is blessed to have his daughter back in his life. He said Lindsay is in a “stronger place” than ever before and that she just needs to divert herself from bad influences. She was photographed at the treatment center partaking in healthy activities such hiking and … Continue reading

The Betty Ford Center: 25 Years Later

I don’t even think I knew what a rehab center was until the Betty Ford Center came into being. Former First Lady Betty Ford decided to open the drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Rancho Mirage, California along with Ambassador Leonard Firestone. It opened its doors in 1982, which makes this year the 25th anniversary of its opening. Why would someone so visible in the public eye open such a center? The First Lady decided to do it because she had fought an addiction and wanted a center that emphasized the needs of women as well as men. The center … Continue reading

Brigitte Neilsen – Sober and Happy

While the news of Lindsay Lohan’s relapse is upsetting, there is another celebrity who is touting her sobriety – former Red Sonja actress turned reality star Brigitte Nielsen. Red Sonja wasn’t my kind of movie, but I did become a bit of a Brigitte fan when she married one of my favorite actors, Sylvester Stallone. That romance went down like in flames like an F-14, but The Great Dane kept busy with her career, appearing mainly soon forgotten films, made for tv movies, and recording music. But, once she decided to star in the Surreal Life, she found a second … Continue reading

Call Me the Jinxster – Lohan Arrested Again

The other day, I wrote in my blog that maybe Lindsay Lohan was turning over a new leaf. She voluntarily stayed longer in rehab than she had to, she was seen drinking only Red Bull and water at her 21st birthday celebration, she had surrendered herself to authorities to face drunken driving charges from May, and I read that she even was voluntarily wearing the ankle bracelet that would test her sweat for alcohol. It all sounds good, doesn’t it? Yeah, until today’s new that she was arrested again. Just five days after surrendering herself to the May drunk driving … Continue reading
