How To Survive A Plane Crash

In a previous blog I asked the question “Do airplanes have ‘safe seats?’” After all, if you were on-board a plane that was experiencing a major problem wouldn’t you want to be in a seat that offered the best chance of survival? As it turns out, aviation safety experts say that each crash has so many different variables that it would be “very difficult — if not impossible –to determine if any one seat offers a better chance of surviving a crash than another.” But take heart, studies show between 1983 and 2000, more than 95% of people involved in … Continue reading

True or False–Airplanes Have “Safe Seats?”

Growing up, my dad insisted that whenever we flew we absolutely, positively, had to sit over the airplane’s wing. He subscribed to the popular theory that the wing area provided the safest seats because (as some argue) that section of the plane is the most structurally sound. I never questioned him (why would I—he was my dad). So for years, no matter what type of aircraft or how short my flight was I always requested a window seat over the wing. (Never mind, that I missed out on some spectacular aerial views because they were obstructed by this massive piece … Continue reading

Infant Child Car Seat Safety

Studies show that approximately 82% of children that are placed in child safety seats are not restrained properly. This should be quite an eye opener, considering that when used properly, a child safety seat actually reduces the risk of death for infants by 71%. Some adults seem to think that their driving skills are so excellent (“I drive slow and cautious.”) or that the length of the trip (“I’m just going to the corner store.”) are excuses enough for not taking the time to properly secure their children. However, you are not alone on the roads. Other drivers may actually … Continue reading
