Festive Family Fun: Making Pinecone Christmas Trees and Paper Plate Snowmen

Like much of the country, we are getting walloped by another round of wicked winter weather. Our local mall, which was supposed to open its doors at 8 a.m. to accommodate last-minute holiday shoppers, was forced to delay doing so for three hours so plows could clear 7 inches of snow from the parking lot. In addition, the wind chills have plummeted to 35 below zero and more snow is on the way. This, of course, means it’s ideal weather for holiday crafting. If you are stuck indoors today, consider passing the time making these delightful holiday decorations. They are … Continue reading

Naughty and Nice Snowman Gifts

These cute little gifts are perfect for stocking stuffers or as inexpensive gifts for co-workers, friends, service workers, neighbors and kids. You can choose which you would like to make, depending on whether the person you are giving one to has been naughty or nice. The naughty gifts make great ideas for gag gifts, too. Snowman gifts are really nice (even the naughty ones) because snowmen always have a way of making people smile. Let’s start with the naughty, just because that can be a little bit of fun. Snowman Poop Snowman poop is so easy to make. Just place … Continue reading

The Snowman Conspiracy (2)

What happens when a blogger starts noticing the snowmen. Is she right or just crazy? This is part two of The Snowman Conspiracy. Those are so easy to collect aren’t they? My collection first started with a Christmas gift from our in-laws. It is the cutest door sign that is personalized with our name. It features three snow people, two adults and a child, a representation of our family at the time. We still cherish it and display it, even though our family has grown from three members to five. After that, we just had to have some stuffed snow … Continue reading

Frugal Fun: Make A Snowman Kit

Everyone here in Pennsylvania is gearing up for a major snowstorm. It is predicted to sneak in sometime late tomorrow night and continue through Wednesday, closing school, causing delays and making havoc. Fortunately, I still have a good stockpile, so I won’t have to join the throngs of folks at the grocery store, buying up all of the eggs, milk and bread. The kids are looking forward to the snow, especially my oldest, Andrew. Lots of snow means a day off of school and the chance to build a snowman. And so, tomorrow I will be assembling a snowman kit. … Continue reading

Make a Snowman even if You don’t have Snow!

Some areas don’t get much snow, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make an adorable snowman (or woman) or a whole bunch of different ones to decorate your home inside. A snowman is perfect just for winter or even for Christmas. Paper Bag Snowman You can use paper lunch sacks to make a cute snowman. If you can only find the brown ones, you’ll need to paint them white and let them dry first. If you can find white ones, even better! Stuff three bags with crumpled up newspaper. You obviously want one real fat one, one medium one, and … Continue reading

Snowman Costume (or Snow-woman)

Grab some white sweatpants and a white hooded sweatshirt, extra baggy. Take in at the waste if necessary, but they should be pretty baggy everywhere else. Stuff the pants legs, the shirt sleeves, and the “belly” of the shirt with fiber fill. If you’d rather use other materials, have your child wear other clothes beneath the sweats to protect skin. Then, crumble up newspaper, tissue paper, etc., and stuff them inside. Your snowman will of course need a hat. Choose any style you like. If you have any New Year’s party favors still hanging around, you might be able to … Continue reading

Snowman Doorstop Craft

Sometimes a crafty inspiration strikes in the strangest places–in this case in a pile of backyard debris during an afternoon of Fall cleanup. There was a lone, leftover paving stone that was begging to be something more. I’d seen a book of funny spring critters made out of paving stones in a book in the craft store, but with winter coming on, I thought a frosty friend would be more appropriate. So I set my daughter to work painting it white (she was more than happy to get out of weeding and raking) and then we decorated it like a … Continue reading
