If I Could Only Stop Lecturing

I know better than to get started on “the lecture.” My kids are old enough that I have had plenty of time to learn that lectures don’t work and I usually feel worse after a long-winded lecture anyway. So, why can’t I stop? What is it about parenthood that makes us cling to the antiquated and pointless lecture?! I remember watching television shows like “The Brady Bunch” and “Leave it to Beaver” in syndication and reruns when I was a kid. I remember thinking how amazingly calm and productive those parent lectures were. I also remember than whenever my own … Continue reading

General Conference From the Past: “The Importance of Prayer”

In April of 1974, President N. Eldon Tanner, First Counselor in the First Presidency, gave a talk entitled “The Importance of Prayer.” He discussed the Lord’s prayer and the pattern presented. I am especially sorrowful with this lesson, as I really loved it when I studied it in December. I would like to share with you something that I took from the lesson and have applied to my life over the last three months. When talking of family prayer, President Kimball urges us to make it a kneeling prayer. “All of the members of the family, including the little ones, should have … Continue reading
