Pet Tattoos

I was paging through a recent edition of BARK magazine and couldn’t help but notice a feature article about pet tattoos. Not tattoos FOR pets — people who get tattoos of their pets. It seems that there are lots of people out there choosing to get a tattoo to memorialize a lost pet, or just express love for a current pet. The article had pictures of a variety of styles, from full color portrait to cartoonish puppies playing. There was even a cute one of a stick-figure human with a ponytail chasing after a stick-figure dog. I also liked one … Continue reading

Budding Tattoo Artists—Writing on Clothes and Skin

I have been told that not EVERY child goes through a stage where they write on their skin and/or their clothes, but I do not know if I have actually met a child who hasn’t scribbled a little something on their flesh or fabric at one time or another. Depending on your views of such things, the behavior might be a really big deal…or not… I was one of those kids who tried out the ink drawings on my skin (and eventually amassed a bit of a genuine tattoo collection as an adult) and I used to jot messages and … Continue reading

Should Christians Get Tattoos or Piercing?

In addition to the question of whether Christians are justified in getting tattoos and piercing, I’d like also to keep in mind other types of permanent procedures that some would go as far to suggest is mutilation. Appearances have evolved even in many Christian churches as they have in secular society. It’s not for me to suggest what is right or wrong when the apparel remains modest and gender specific as the Bible states. But what about fashion that is relatively permanent like tattoos and piercing along with more severe disfigurements? Some argue that our flesh will perish anyway and … Continue reading

Free Tattoos from Disney Movie Rewards

Cars was the best children’s movie of 2006. I don’t know of anyone who didn’t love it. My kids are crazy for anything that has to do with it. Trouble is, mom’s not too crazy about the price of licensed items. Here’s a real deal, though. When you join Disney Movie Rewards, you can get a free sheet of Cars temporary tattoos. We don’t do the whole tattoo thing in our house, but they make great stickers. All you have to do is join the Movie Rewards club. Then scroll down to the bottom center and click on “Take Survey”. … Continue reading

Britney Spears – How Much Weirder Can It Get?

Has Britney Spears taken over as Queen of the Bizarre Behavior where Anna Nicole left off? It certainly seems that way! Yesterday, I saw a brief news report that said Britney had checked into – and out of – rehab in just one day. Her manager could not be reached for comment, but People Magazine, TMZ.com, and the television show “Extra” all reported yesterday that Britney checked into Crossroads, the Eric Clapton center in Antigua. “Access Hollywood” said the reports of Britney entering rehab were not true, but did not say from whom they received their information. Right on the … Continue reading

Tattoos, Piercings, and Mohawks (Oh, My)

I’ve mentioned before that we don’t have a lot of extreme personal fashion going on around here. I’m not sure exactly why not considering I totally prepared myself for WHATEVER when it came to teen fashion statements. That might be why we don’t–no need to shock mom (or their father) since the parents just “don’t go there.” But–I sure do see other parents’ teenagers around town all decked out in their colorful and bejeweled finery. Ever the practical person, I’m wondering 1. who is paying for all those tattoos and piercings–does it come out of allowances, part-time jobs, birthday gift … Continue reading

The Body is a Temple

I love my nieces and all the young women in my life that I have been blessed to know. Oddly, I’m starting to really feel the difference between the generations. When I was a teenager (oh my word, I have definitely placed myself in the older generation, and at the age of 42!) nice girls just did not have tattoos. We didn’t. We also didn’t have fourteen earrings in one ear, one in the nose, one in the navel and others in places I don’t even want to think about. Sister Susan W. Tanner stated at October 2005 General Conference: … Continue reading
