Taking Vacations Without the Kids

Yesterday I wrote about day tripping in your own town. Spending time with your kids is great but what about taking a trip without the little ones. Many parents would like to but feel guilty about wanting to have some time away from the little ones. If you’re one of those parents, have no fear, there are ways you can have a little R and R without the kids and not feel guilty about doing it. The current issue of LifeScript Healthy Advantage newsletter offers several ways to lessen the guilt. Here are some that I particularly like: (1) Gift-A-Day- … Continue reading

Family Vacation Planning Fun

There is not very much that is more enjoyable in life than a fun summertime family vacation. But how do you decide where to go and what to do? Most families have only one week a year (worth of time and money) to enjoy a vacation and since the world is so big and there are so many amazing places to see and share with our children, how can we ever choose? Personally, I love to involve my girl in just about everything we do as a family – from cleaning her baby sister’s room to picking out the wallpaper … Continue reading

Epcot – Not Just for Big Kids Anymore

If you’re anything like me, you may think that Epcot doesn’t offer quite as much fun for kids as adults. It always seemed to me that my young son would not enjoy Epcot as much as he would the Magic Kingdom, or Animal Kingdom. Boy was I wrong. With all of the updates Epcot has made in recent years, even at four years old, my son had a blast! The Imagination Pavilion has lots of hands on attractions for kids to enjoy, including a Kodak exhibit where you can take a family photo, then add fun special effects, like morphing, … Continue reading

Second, Third & Fourth Honeymoons

Are you considering planning a second honeymoon? It can be exciting to sit down and relive the carefree time that marked the early part of your marriage. It can be even more fun to plan the time away from life to spending quality time with your spouse. Depending on how you look at it, every vacation you and your spouse take can be considered another honeymoon. After all, what is a honeymoon but a time dedicated to getting to know, spend quality time with and enjoy your spouse? Don’t we do that on vacations? If we don’t, then maybe we … Continue reading

Backyard Vacation

Skyrocketing fuel prices have many families re-evaluating their summer road trip plans. If soaring gas prices have caused you to put the brakes on a long-distance family getaway, consider other vacation destinations closer to home… really close… like your own backyard. With a little creativity (and little or no expense) you can set up the ideal vacation spot for the entire family. Here’s how: “Camp Fill-in-Your-Last-Name-Here.” Pitch a tent. No tent? No problem. Drape a large tarp over a clothesline. Stock it with sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, an inflatable mattress, and your child’s favorite furry friends. Create A Safe Campfire. … Continue reading

Theme Vacations Part 2

During a recent visit to my aunt and uncle’s, I popped into my 11-year-old cousin’s room and noticed big black X’s on each day of his calendar. It could only mean one thing: the countdown to summer vacation had begun. That of course means I don’t have much time to finish this vacation blog. So, here we go…part two of “Theme Vacations.” Part one covered everything from professional football training camps to outlet malls. The idea is to pick a central theme and plan your trip accordingly. We continue the list with: Farmers’ Markets—From pickled beets to smoked meats and, … Continue reading

Theme Vacations

Several years ago during a flight from San Francisco to Chicago I sat next to a man whose carry-on bag had nearly a dozen baseball caps attached to it. I took the bait and asked him about his “hat bag.” He explained that he was meeting up with four of his best friends from college and they were going to spend the next three weeks traveling cross-country to attend major league baseball games. I got off the plane thinking, what a great idea. Theme vacations can be a great option, especially if you are planning a family trip. Here are … Continue reading

LDS Vacations–LDS Cruises and Tours

This is going to most likely be my final LDS vacation blog for now. I have written about all the places that you can go in the United States of America, but I know that many people enjoy travel to Jerusalem, and to see the Mayan ruins. I personally know several people that have enjoyed travel to the Holy Lands. I think that most of them traveled in a tour group. There are many advantages to traveling in a tour group. You do not need to worry about transportation, and you also receive information about the sites that you are … Continue reading

LDS Vacations–The Western United States

If you are going to be traveling through out the western United States, there are quite a few sites worth visiting. These sites are things that you would most likely do in conjunction with other vacation plans. To learn more about any of these areas you can click here. The Mormon Handcart Visitors’ Center is in Alcova, Wyoming. You can take tours of the visitors’ center. Handcart treks and overnight camping are available, but you should call ahead and schedule these activities with the visitors’ center. This might be a good activity to do on your way in or out … Continue reading

LDS Vacations–Utah

Today I am going to blog about what is available to view and do in Utah, but outside of Salt Lake City. Utah is a fairly large state, and most of these sites take at least a three or four hour drive, if not more to visit. You would most likely want to find a place to stay nearby. To find more information on all the sites I am talking about please click here. There are three pageants you can visit in Utah. In June you can go to the Mormon Miracle Pageant in Manti, Utah. Seating for the pageant … Continue reading
