Does Going Vegetarian Really Reduce Carbon Emissions?

People who are interested in practicing green living may tell you that eating less meat or going completely vegetarian will lower your carbon footprint. The problem is that while raising animals for food, especially beef, takes a lot of energy and causes a lot of carbon emission, the truth is that you may actually have a larger footprint when you go vegetarian. Here is why. Many vegetarians turn to milk products such as yogurt and cheese to substitute some of the animal protein that is eaten by non vegetarians. The problem arises because some of these milk products may actually … Continue reading

Green Celebrities: Woody Harrelson

Another celebrity that was green years before it was cool is Woody Harrelson. Harrelson has long been a supporter of the legalization of hemp. In fact, he was arrested in Kentucky back in 1996 for planting hemp seed. He eventually won the case even though the state law didn’t distinguish between industrial hemp (used for things such as clothing) and marijuana. Harrelson also scaled the Golden Gate Bridge with the members of Earth First! to protest the harvesting of redwood trees. He was the subject of the 2003 documentary Go Further, in which he traveled the U.S. in a biodiesel … Continue reading

A Gluten-Free Diet for Rheumatoid Arthritis

New Deals Focus: Raw Vegan Lifestyle

Wow! So much has changed in my life these past couple of weeks. I think that many of my Deals blog posts might take a drastic change from now on. I have just recently become a raw food vegan. This means that I will be mostly consuming fruits & veggies, all uncooked, plus some nuts & seeds. I first learned about it in November, at which point I started making a few raw gourmet dishes here & there, but near the end of December, I began realizing how important and how easy it really is, so I decided to commit … Continue reading

I had a good friend whose daughter-in-law was a vegetarian. The first time she had the daughter-in-law over for Sunday dinner, she was freaking out, hoping she had an appropriate menu.
