Fall Fun for Kids: Acorn Art Projects

If it weren’t for Disney’s Chip and Dale I doubt my preschooler would know that chipmunks actually like acorns. As far as she is concerned, the tiny rodent-like creatures only have eyes for the stale bread she throws at them whenever we are at the park. As for the acorns that are strewn all over the grassy areas leading up to the playground, they go straight into my daughter’s pockets and come home with us. When we get home we put her acorn collection to good use by making the following projects: ACORN WREATH Materials: Acorns Wreath Form Hot glue … Continue reading

Harvest Day Decorating

Maybe you just aren’t into all the spooky stuff. Do you prefer the idea of Harvest instead of Halloween? Maybe you still have little ones that could become scared easily or maybe your little goblins have all grown up. For any number of reasons, including faith for some, there are many people who prefer the Harvest look to the Halloween scene. Harvest decorating lets you use those richly colored, beautiful items right through Harvest and into Thanksgiving (if your pumpkins and other natural elements last that long – you may end up needing to replace some of these items before … Continue reading

Fall Decorating and Design

How formal are you when it comes to fall decorating? I’m more of a “decorate” person than a “design” person. I arrange, adjust, and arrange some more until I achieve a look I like. I try not to do the same thing twice two years in a row, unless it’s just something I adore (the same is true for Christmas and other holidays). I have heard of people that create a specific design, and stick to it year after year, even taking photos of the completed design to store with the decorations. That way, the next year, they can decorate … Continue reading

3 Fun Fall Leaf Wreaths

Here are three cute ideas to create a fun Fall wreath to decorate a door this season. I got the idea for these fun fall wreaths while visiting my local Michaels craft store. On display was a complete kit for a Martha Stewart fall leaf wreath, complete with all of the basic materials that were needed. This looks like a very easy-to-use kit with all pre-assembled pieces, and I was immediately attracted to the design and the look of the materials. You can purchase the kit at Michaels, of course (Look for the 40% off coupons that are usually carried in … Continue reading

Natural Christmas Décor

Have you started decorating your home for the holidays yet? My 2-year-old daughter saw the mall decked out in its Christmas glory yesterday and asked why our home didn’t look as “sparkly.” Needless to say, we have about half of our decorations up now. In unpacking the boxes I’ve noticed we are lacking natural décor. Granted, natural items don’t lend themselves to be packed away and reused from year to year, but they help bring the outdoors in and help create a wonderfully fresh background to your holiday décor. Here are some easy ways you can deck your halls with … Continue reading

Spongy Easter Wreath

Here’s a cute idea using fluffy bath sponges to make a wreath for Easter. You will need from 4 to 12 new bath sponges depending on their size and the size of wreath you’d like to make. The fluffier ones work best, and you can choose bath sponges that are all the same color or select a variety of colors. Pastels are perfect for Easter, and mixing in a few white ones creates a nice effect as well. All you have to do is tie the bath sponges together at the handles, pulling the strings toward the back so they … Continue reading
